Low blows, what's your definition?
Low blows, below the waist, what's your definition?
Posted by Majesty: The following quote is from Majesty.
"Biased ref call who didn't notice any low blow Cotto was throwing that night."
And so...
I am sitting here watching this fight in which Majesty says that Cotto was landing low blows to Corley. Before I post the video, I would like to know what you folks say is a low blow. What is a questionable low blow. What is acceptable and what is not? Where is the waistline according to you?
What is the purpose of the waistline rule?
I dont care if you show me a web definition, a photo, a clip, your own personal description, what ever.
I will post the video once I am done. The video will be posted right here in this thread. I will just edit this post and paste the video here on top. The video consists of every body shot Cotto threw that night. I do mean every body shot and some extra fight footage cus it's only 5 rounds there is not much to show. Roughly a 9 minute clip.
I am interested in seeing how many people agree or disagree. It's not the first time several people watch a fight and come up with different conclusions. I am sure this test will be no different.
Peace.
Re: Low blows, what's your definition?
Below the belly button, but since the fighters are waering trunks it's to the ref. call......
Unless Majesty has see through vizion and can see the punches landed below the belly button, then the only other way would be to ask Majesty exactly where he considers a punch to below.....
Sometimes the ref. signals dead center in the top of the trunks where they put their names, now if you notice some fighters belt line is thicker others it's thinner, some wear the trunks high to give them less of an area to hit and a bigger area for the ref. to call a low blow....

I am with you. Below the belly button about what like?
My bellybutton is about 2" above my waistline. I just measured the distance from where the belly button ends to where the waistline begins. It's over 2" but to make it easier and give him the benefit of the doubt, I will call it 2"
Thanks.

Ok here is the video.
Before you watch the video look at the photos below
and then you be the judge as to wether or not Cotto
was landing low blows like Majesty claims.

No visible belly button. Trunks are too high. Roughly where that arrow is, that is where one's waistline should be.

They are not even boxing trunks.
He is wearing a blue skirt with...

Little white panties :-* How cute.
Imagine if he was wearing these undies past his belly button ;D

Note: I took every piece of footage of where Cotto was landing anything near Corleys body. Just follow the fight it's only about 8 minutes.
Honestly even the so called low blow Cotto was deducted a point for, is questionable.
Corley is a great actor. Notice how long he took to get back in the fight.
Also notice how he glances over at Cotto. Corley grins and gives Cotto the wicked eyebrow.
BTW. There is no question as to wether or not Corley's low blow to Cotto was low. Corley hit Cotto right in the nuts.
Topic is now open for discussion .
Re: Low blows, what's your definition?
It's at the waistline or just above. The belly button is about right. It's the refs call though. A lot of fighters like to wear their trunks high so they don't have to worry about their trunks sagging. Foreman would wear them almost halfway up his stomach. It's the refs job to identify where the waistline is. Just because you get hit on the trunk belt doesn't mean it's a lowblow and that was definitely the case in the Corley fight.
Re: Low blows, what's your definition?
And my definition also goes it doesn't just mean to the nuts, it means ANYTHING under the belly button.

Yeah well that's a given. A hip shot can be just as painful as a nut shot. Especially at the joint. But Robert Guerrero against Eric Aiken was a fight in which a ref did nothing about lowblows, not Cotto against Corley.

Yeah that was a real dirty fight and Guerrero was even smiling while getting away with it

The rule is not the belly button rule.
Below the waist line is the overall term.
We have established that the belly button is roughly 2" above the waistline.
So Cotto's shot's were right on the money.

"Corley is a great actor. Notice how long he took to get back in the fight.

He does kinda look like Don Cheadle, I saw a few low shot that Corley caused by leaping in the air, and a few he deflected with his elbows into his nuts.Seemed like a dirty fight, no love loss there.Corley's trunks were a bit high, with that thick waistband, but Cotto isnt sagging his trunks either. Is there a restriction on how high your waistguard can be? The reason I ask is because I notice alot of times the waistguard will ride up, giving what you would think is more protection.

LMAO! I had no idea that was this actors name. Corley sure looks a lot like Don Cheadle, you are right.
Your question is a good one and I have a hard time being able to judge low blows sometimes because of the different shorts these guys are wearing. They should wear the protector on the outside like they do when sparring. This would give us a better view and eliminate alot of the guess work or second guessing. Just my opinion.
