has calzaghe lost his power?
I have follwed calzaghe since his 4th pro fight.he always had a tendency to slap during fast flurrys, but the number of slaps have definately increased, most notably during and after the lacy fight.but joe used to have a real cracking 'one punch' shot (shown in fights such as mitchell, sheika, veit) but this seems to be totally gone.perhaps his age is showing?perhaps he either concisously or subconcisously pulls his punches due to fragile hands? he is gaining a reputation as a fight that can only stop an opponent through volume of punches.this was not the case before,he had a real bomb.but i now fear that that one punch power will never return.i feel this is due to his hands, not that he is deciding to hold back with his left but that it is a learnt behaviour, anybody that has badly hurt their hands knows that hitting a hard object becomes difficult,no matter how angry you get with yourself, the tendency to slap then sets in.any thoughts?(if you havent seen any calzaghe pre-lacy will probably not be qualified to comment)

since i watched the lacy fight it has been more and more clear that his power is not even close to what it was. He was once an extremely hard hitter at SMW but after all the times he has bust his hands it seems to have taken its tole.
Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
have a cc for no reason ;D

Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
Hes changing his formula, I assume because of the hands and defence ,playing on the other guys sense of feel response qiute clever it certainly works. What hes doing is hitting the other guys gloves so he cant get of while hes having a look whats on I thought his switch to the body was good and his awareness excellent. Against a A class fighter I dont know ?.
Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
i forgot to add that with or without power he would still have too much for kessler,or taylor.

He definately hasnt lost his speed thats for sure. They say power is the last to go, so...saying that I dont think he great power to begin with, timing yeah, power no.
Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
Manfredo last nite was waiting for Joe to give him distance which Joe didnt The problem is Taylor and Kesslerr make there own
Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
the saying 'power is the last to go' is bullshit.it is the first to go for obvious reasons.speed stays, its an inate ability.power is the last to go is the biggest myth in boxing
Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
Tell George Foreman that.

It's different though because Calzaghe has weak hands most heavy handed boxers haven't got weak hands and yes like No Contest said tell Foreman that he never lost his power thats for sure.
Re: has calzaghe lost his power?
It's no secret that Joe rarely spars these days and rarely uses the heavy bag, whether this has any bearing on matters i don't know but i agree that he seems to be less powerful these days.
5 of his last 7 have gone the distance too.

Actually Tito Calzaghe was very heavy handed in his younger days going into Eubank fight he had 22 wins and 21 kos he was heavy handed but since hand problems i think he holds back on the power and goes for quantity not quality to try and not break his hands.
