Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
Let's face alot of people believe that Jones isn't what he used to be. And even if he hadn't gotten knocked out twice, and lost three of the last four people would still notice the slower footspeed, and the diminished reflexes. However, Jones still has faster hands, and just as quick of feet if not faster than Calzaghe. If Calzaghe tries to box with Jones Jr. I think he loses most of the rounds because Jones' hooks are better, his combinations are cleaner, quicker, and harder, and his cross is more accurate. I see Jones jumping in and out too quick for Calzaghe to counter. When Calzaghe gets Jones on the rope he throws his slapping combinations with are bludgeoning, but Jones can deal with it, and retaliates with his own combinations that overwhelm Calzaghe. Also Jones will go to the body which will take alot out of Calzaghe. Regardless Calzaghe is 35, and I think Jones can definitely still do it.

Roy is history, he gets clipped on the chin and he gets wobbled. He gets wobbled and then he starts to fight on the defensive. The only man who will be overwhelmed will be Roy, it would take more than a few potshots to beat Joe.

Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
What's the catch-weight? Calzaghe is a super-middleweight and Jones, Jr. has mostly been fighting as a light-heavyweight. If Jones, Jr. moves down, he's done. If Calzaghe moves up, Jones, Jr. has a better chance. Calzaghe is not a power-puncher, he's just fast and while Jones, Jr. hasn't knocked anybody out since Betty became Mrs. Rubble, he's still a dangerous fighter for any non-light-heavyweights moving up in weight.

You proved my point. 'The Flintstones' must not be that memorable to you and neither is a Jones, Jr. KO to me.
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
i think jones can pull it off, joe isn't young anymore either.
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
I wouldn't say Roy is faster then Calzaghe. I'll give him footspeed but handspeed I'd say Calzaghe has the edge. And Roy isn't to accomodating to pressure. Remember, Amaju had him in a scare early on in there fight. Calzaghe is just to relentless for Jones at this point in his career imo. Aggressiveness is often underrated and overlooked, it would be a deciding factor in this one imo.

yea aggression was what glen johnson and tarver put on roy, but glen showed aggression from the get go. I don't know if joe would do that to roy though, i can see joe getting intimidated by roy. Roy still has good offense but his chin is suspect now and his defense now a days is inconsistant.
its a matter of if joe would fight like glen johnson did. I'm not sure it'll work for him but definitely joe is going to need aggression on roy, if he gets intimidated roy is going to bully him with his antics.
even though roy is past it, roy is still the biggest and baddest fighter joe has ever seen. lets see if joe has the balls to try and overwhelm the fallen king roy jones jr.

Um he didn't get wobbled by Prine Ajamu or whatever, and his fight against Glen Johnson he took alot of punches before he was taken out. It is still hard to land a clean shot on him, and Tarver caught him as flush as I've seen in both the time he wobbled Jones in their last fight, and in the first fight, but Tarver also hits alot harder than Calzaghe IMO. Calzaghe isn't from what I've seen a guy who unless he already has the guy that comes in balls to wall throwing combinations like crazy going shot for shot. You also forget than Mitchell guy who was not even close to as hard of a hitter as Roy is even now was able to down Calzaghe, and even Lacy was able to catch Calzaghe enough to stun him a few times. Roy will be able to hit the man at will. Like Julius said if Calzaghe puts too much pressure on there is no way IMO ROy can win at this stage, but I'm not sure Calzaghe will do that.
Re: Why Jones could still beat Calzaghe
i really hope Calzaghe gets caught with a big punch in his next fight. He really goes to town when he gets caught flush, which hasnt happened in his last four or five fights, in fact i think the Byron mitchell fight was the last time.
The funny thing about Joe fighting Jones jr is that if he wins people will say Jones was finished, if he loses then people will say he was bullshit all along!
So either way Joe cant win.
