Any style of MMA simular to boxing?
Im looking to get into boxing, but if there isn't really a boxing gym available to me, what would be my closest bet to boxing? From what ive seen of some MA places they kinda seem like a lot of show and not a lot of real grimy fighting. I really would not want to go somewhere with 40 year old women and scream "ahhhhhyaaaaa" everytime I punch. Get my drift? Thanks.
Re: Any style of MMA simular to boxing?
Muay Thai, and I believe that Kenpo Karate is supposed to be more geared to actual combat, but ask TKDboy he'd know better
Re: Any style of MMA simular to boxing?
I really agree with van on this muay thai, kickboxing, and full contact katate is the closest you will come I don't think any of them can replace real boxing training for the hands. I actually go to a few different boxing gyms to train striking sepratly from my ground game. Just look for hanging heavy bags and a trainer that can give u one on one attention no big group classes.

Find a Boxing Gym. Avoid Martial Arts completely. Everything they teach is wrong. They are philosophically different; daimetrically opposed; totally incompatible.

is this just your baseless ingnorant inflammatory opinion or do you actually have a basis behind this?
Re: Any style of MMA simular to boxing?
Interesting - I always thought boxing to be a very good example of a martial art.

Not only will the study of Martial Arts ruin you as a boxer, the associated influences of Eastern Philosophy will ruin you as an individual.

What a blithering moron. Take your degradations and get lost. If you're going to post at least try to prove a point instead of trying (and failing) to sound intelligent.

I saw that he came back earlier. I guess he has nothing else to say. :)
Re: Any style of MMA simular to boxing?
No, I’ve got plenty to say, plenty. I just don’t know if it’s worth my time saying it here. I’ve been waiting to see the responses; to see if anyone could understand, even a little bit, what I am saying, - and give me something substantial to reply to. But no, not yet anyway.
The closest was bcollins, but I suspect he’s being sarcastic (I apologize if you’re not, b). No, b, Boxing is not a good example of a martial art. It is, as I said, philosophically different and diametrically opposed to martial arts theory.
As to the rest of you, well, VanChilds and Nate17 are so threatened by the truth of my statements that they want me banned; and Von Milash and Chris N. are just cheap shot artists. Not unexpected. That’s what MMA teaches after all, isn’t it, cheap shots?
Where I come from everyone understood that, and that MMA is nothing more than dirty fighting.
Re: Any style of MMA simular to boxing?
First of all I've never understood why MMA haters come and post on the MMA thread...Your first or second post on the whole site was simply an ignorant inflammatory post...If you don't like MMA then dont post here. You wont be missed...If you read the original post; the guy doesn't have any boxing gyms near him but wants to train in an combat sport and wanted to know a MA that would be similar..No one is suggesting that Muay Thai/kick boxing/Kenpo makes you a better boxer, but these are disciplines that are more geared to actual fighting and less the Discipline/Spiritual etc....Your opinion of Eastern Philosophy ruining one as a person is simply racist and pretty much discredits you....say what you want about skill or preference of a discipline but these little guys are as tough as they come

Cheap Shots? Dirty Fighting? Its a sport bub..meant for entertainment, which is subjective..you dont like it dont watch it, but dont come one a MMA forum and be completely ignorant about
