So I went 2 GLEASON's GYM this morning....
...it was dingy...a bit rundown...with alot of space....walking in there all i can remember was ROCKY III when ROCK & APOLLO entered the gym....lol....sorry for being corny....
alot of equipment....
i talk to a trainer...he said training starts at $20-30 an hour...
he first ask me if i want to fight or just learn to box...
of course i said FIGHT....
i think i'm going to train there...
any advice...it will be greatly appreciated....
Re: So I went 2 GLEASON's GYM this morning....
Welp most gymns are dingy(except mine, its in my house, the wife gives me crap if it isnt clean ;D)the most important thing is how you feel the training fits you
Ill explain
In the last month Feur has gotten some training time in at 3 seperate gymns
FIST(my gymn)-I concentrate heavily on footwork, having my fighters fight out of a modified cat stance(memo to self,I owe Chris some Pics),emphazise a stinging jab,and being able to throw all punches from all positions(Im a real joy to work the mitts with)
Superior(Welch)-They more or less follow Haislets book to the letter(she mainly goes there for sparring)
Joe Fraziers(Philly)-They stress an open stance,so a fighter has better balance as they bob in to range,to set up rising uppercuts and crosses
Now for a tall fighter like Feur,or myself, the first style is probably best as it takes advantage of reach and size, but for a shorter fighter,Fraziers is probably best,as it gives you a way to get in on,well, a bigger fighter
So go a couple of times, and see if what theyre teaching fits you,now mind, you should be able to modify for what you have in front of you,but trust me,I fall in to this to,Trainers can be very,"My way or the highway"

$20 or $30 for working with a novice. Poet hes taking the piss using a situation to earn a Dollar. tell him to fuck off go join an Amatuer Club which is what youre looking for unless youve got more money than sense.

This is Gleasons, hell Fraziers is $35 for a day pass
Re: So I went 2 GLEASON's GYM this morning....
Tm suppose it is, but to my way of thinking its times 4 thats a lot of money for Joe average a week. I remember in the 80s guys offering me $100 a sessions to work with them. I told them $5 to join in and Id pickup on them. Qne is now a major promoter, couldnt fight to save his life.

Keep in mind, thats for one on one time, and specific training,Feur had two different trainers, including Marvis himself on her at Joes
Hell, I dont charge,Im going to have to figure on how to soon if the gym keeps growing
But with everything, its a "You get what you pay for"situation
If your going to Gleasons, and your getting 1 on 1,your going to pay for it
Re: So I went 2 GLEASON's GYM this morning....
I get where youre comig from, in my gym we didnt charge made a good living of 10%

When your gym has produced B-hop(fraziers),or the list is endless(Gleasons) you can name your prices
Also keep in mind, those prices keep the gym open so they can train kids who dont have the coin for just about nothing,it kinda balances out

TM is on point about the kids...they had alot of kids in there....from what i know some of them had no money...the trainers sometimes are pretty gracious and help out the kids that can't afford the rates....
they (trainers) were pretty negotiable about the rates...since i'm young....
i went to another GYM that also trains fighters....
http://nyboxinggym.com/
i don't know which GYM to choose yet...
Re: So I went 2 GLEASON's GYM this morning....
I always found that weird about american boxing gyms..
They want like 20-30 dollars to train you, thats as in, be your specific trainer..
Over here we just go to the gym when it suits which if you want to can be five nights a week..
£2 a night £4 for three
Ive never found a harder training session in my county..
A long ten round circuit and about five or so rounds of sparring and youve spent 2 quid..
Cant say fairer then that
Re: So I went 2 GLEASON's GYM this morning....
cc scrap. couldn't agree more. the motto at our gym is, you pay your dues, you get free mitts. granted, if you compete for the club, you get first priority, but you will get your turn.
like i said in the other thread, screw gleasons. find a little gym where they'll work with you because they want to..for the love of the game. especially at this point, you're a novice. all you'll need to start and for a while yet is three rounds per session. that's plenty to get you going.
