Roy Jones please retire...
You are deluding yourself.
You are a pale imitation of the fighter you once were.
You can no longer throw combinations, and instead throw one shot and then cover up.
You spend large portions of time on the ropes just covering up.
You couldn't even find it in you to get a relative novice like Hanshaw out of there. When you had him in trouble you just stopped throwing punches.
Your most potent weapon these days is your smile.
You don't even listen to yout trainer and instead speak to your father at ringside.
Your promoter Murad Muhamad is a pathetic hustler who couldn't even afford to fly a proper ring announcer down to Biloxi for the night.
My local bar could have had Margarito and Williams but instead opted for the Jones charade, thankfully there were only about 5 people there, they won't be making the same mistake again. What's with all the morons in Mississipi?? They sounded like they were loving watching an old Roy Jones play cat and mouse with a bum for 12 rounds.
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
soundslike sour grapes, and Jones won the fight handily against an undefeated tiger of a young fighter give him credit :) You're just mad because you saw a typical Roy Jones fight instead of the slug fest that was Margarito Williams

Just because he didn't come out guns blazing and knocking everyone out like he did years ago shouldn't mean retire. One thing Jones is doing right is he isn't trying to be someone he isn't, he fights exactly like he should at this time in his career and he's effective at it and beat Hanshaw and outboxed him clearly and Hanshaw is a young gun up and coming undefeated fighter who was one of the best prospects coming up on Shobox so Jones should get that credit for taking the fight and beating him.

And explain I shall...
Well come August 11th, there is a fight card at Arco Arena in Sacramento. Daniel Ponce de Leon is going to take on Ray Boom Boom Bautista, and Jhonny Gonzalez is going to take on Gerry Penalosa(Ponce De Leon's last opponent), also there will be other undercard fights involving all Mexican and Philipino fighters. HBO is gonna be there too, to air it on boxing after dark. Ringside tickets are only 150$, and I got a couple and am going to see it LIVE!!!

CC. Let me know if ya end up goin bro. 8)
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
Roy Jones Jr is a living legend yeh no doubt he is past his prime and lost that awe of invincibility towards
the end of his career like most fighters but what does that mean that he cant or shouldnt fight, if the man
wants to continue fighting and more importantly believes that he still has got something left let the man do what
he loves best stepping inside the squared circle and doing his thing like only rjj can.
Watched the fight against Hanshaw and yeh roy has lost alot of his footwork and definitely doesnt move the way he
use too, and that did see him spend a fair bit of time on the ropes(having said though I thought hanshaw did pressure
him onto the ropes), but the hand speed was electrifying, his commitment to body punching really hurt his opponent,
and coming of the ropes his landed a right hook-left hook-left uppercut combo then a stinging left hook that rocked
hanshaw badly before a shot with alot more push then punch sent hanshaw to the canvas -- either way the boy
was rocked and was going down --
I think that roy should probably take a few more fights before chasing someone big no disrespect to hanshaw, a good
fighter but definitely not a top-level fighter, or not yet anyway but up against the ropes the way roy was, I
do get the feeling that a top-level could have caused alot more damage, but after 1 year lay off I thought overall his
performance was very good and I expect him to get better.
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
I disagree - At 38 I really can't see how he is going to get better.
Jones is living in dream world - he is delusional when he makes these ridiculous excuses for his losses to Tarver and Johnson and I find it sad to watch the former p4p number 1 struggling with fighters like Hanshaw and Prince whatever his name was.
Still, it's his life.
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
wait a minute? he struggled?
As usual he looked like he could of done a lot more than he did but still won comfortably...
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
I started off by saying that roy is past his prime and at 38 I dont think that anyone even roy himself would
dispute that. When I said I can see him getting better I dont mean roy could ever reach that level that he
once boxed at, but in his first fight in a year with a good fighter(again like mentioned earlier not a top-level prize
fighter but definitely a worthy fighter) he showed glimpses of his former self particularly with his handspeed and his
ring generalship lets be honest even when he was on the ropes he was never in any real trouble in this fight, my
concern comes with a top-level fighter being up against the ropes like that he could have got into trouble and thats
why a few fights before taking on a big fight makes sense but yeh like adamgb said

and thats why im saying that he can get better because he showed that he has still got that something
will he be as good as he used to be? you would have to say highly unlikely bordering on impossible but roy IMO
with a few more fights and at his age he is not going to want to wait too long could give the light heavy and the
middle's something to think about...
How I wish roy could have developed a jab, just to control things instead of relying on countering and firing power
punches, I mean obvously he is good at it and at one time great but with the passing of time, reflexes and timing
start to disappear gradually, and I think his major pitfall more then anything else has been the lack of an effective jab.
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
I'm not denying that... Grieg seems to think that Roy has struggled in has past two fights... He's barely looked like he's had to leave 1st gear in either of them and won easily.
Re: Roy Jones please retire...
Of course he's won them easily - they were against Prince and Hanshaw.
