Wild Fighters (what to do)
Well every year when Lacrosse season comes along we get our helmet and gloves out and we box just for fun. I am a bigger size guy and when I go against someone quicker than me they always swing like wild men, how should I counter this? because i seem to either end in a draw or i lose. I have no expierence in boxing that is why I ask and some day I would like to fight competitive but for now I am training to get into great shape. And yes I know they dont do that stuff in real boxing I just want to know how to counter it for next year so I go undeafeted :D and I also see this in ALOT of street fights and this could come in handy later on down the road :D
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
boxing forum. not streetfighting or dude/brah's fighting in a locker room...im sure you can figure any strategy out by watching youtube streetfights...if you are really looking for an answer though:
1-dont get in streetfights, EVER!!!
2-dont get in unsupervised "boxing" mockery with anyone. it is dangerous and people seem to forget that a lot.
3-go away and come back if you decide to get involved with real boxing. lacrosse practice is not boxing. nor is the hallway at school or the parking lot of your local drunk station.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
Well just because I compared it too what they do on the streets dosnt mean it isnt boxing? Everyone began some where and I think it's necassary to know what to do in all situations, I read a little after my last post and I found something similar to the wild swinging but this is coordinated punches called flurries I guess. If you wont answer my question because you believe it's related to street fighting than how would you counter flurry? just bob and evade? let the guy tire himself out than go in and throw your punches? and I didn't say lacrosse practice, it's called helmet boxing I didn't want to be criticized for asking a simple question semi related to boxing.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
dude, a flurry is a controlled set of punches, wild swinging is a joke that is begging to be ended with a violent knockout. its not boxing. its brawling. boxing is an art, a science, a skill...not a bunch of kids bitch slapping each other with lacrosse equipment on.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
A swing is easy to see coming and easy to counter. I'f you're fighting a rusher or a wild fighter nothing will end the fight sooner than a good jab, sidestepping, and counterpunching. Don't get into a fight that you shouldn't be in in the first place.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
Throw STRAIGHT punches. This is the best advice a streetfighter with no training can get.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
All boxers start somewhere... but you're not starting anywhere. ;)
I know you're not here to cause trouble but this is strictly a boxing/exercise board :)
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
A real tight defence. Keeping close, this will put u in for punishment but at close range a wild puncher is incredibly vulnerable and easy neutralise and take out.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
join a boxing gym, youll get in shape and learn how to fight at the same time.
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
Over the years I've noticed that, especially very early in their careers, well schooled boxers have trouble with "wild" fighters, at least for a round or two. This is because they don't do anything right because they don't (or do they?) know what they are doing. In boxing you get to expect the other guy to do certain things because that's what you, and everybody else, does.
I also tend to be pretty patient of just about any type of boxing, having engaged, at some point, in every one of them, I think. So, when you and your lacrosse pals put ont he helmets and swap blows, try this with the wild swingers.
Left shoulder and hip forward, chin down hands up, and step in REAL close to him. Put your left shoulder and forehead into his chest and then punch him in the body. This and his wild swings will soon cause him to become 'winded', at which point he will either quit or stop swinging, at which point you can get some room and start landing your own punches.
This is not to endorse or recommend any type of irresponsible beating the hell out of one another, just something that has worked well for me in similar bouts of mayhem among mates. Good Luck!
Re: Wild Fighters (what to do)
As an aside to the previous post, I'd like to add that my friends and I used to have great fun engaging in a variety of senseless combat sports. A favorite was, while wearing steel-toed work boots, to wrap our hands in shop rags and to engage in "kick-boxing" matches. And we were sober!
Oh for the younger days when bones were less brittle.
