Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I think it's going to be a close fight. I don't agree with the Corley example because Cotto was so weight drained at 140 that he could not take punches well! The Torres fight showed me he had a good chin/heart,he was pushed down and took 25 plus power punches clean from a power puncher and was still up.
I think Mosley from a few years back would have won too but now,I favour Cotto personally. Anyone can get hurt to the body and Cotto is the premier body puncher in the world. His jab and switch hitting will also work to his advantage as will his stamina. Mosley will have his moments,I think I'll be super nervous early on. As the fight wears on though,I think Cotto's body work will slow Shane down.
And although you didn't mention but I know someone will: I totally disagree with the notion that Shane will outbox Cotto. I don't ever recall Shane being a jab and move type of guy, In fact, most of his successes have come from moving forward, using pressure and handspeed.
I'm sticking by my original prediction: Cotto via UD.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
Well said Gamo and I must agree with your analysis. Cotto will not have an easy time because of Mosley's experience and the intelligence he's gained over the years. However, if Cotto displays that intelligence that he has shown flashes of (take your time, don't go for the KO early, which plagued him against Corley and Torres), then he will be able to stop Mosley late or definitely win a decision. I hope so because I want to see Cotto vs. Mayweather next year at MSG!!

I didnt mention Shane outboxing Cotto cause I dont think he will. But he can out hustle him. I never really saw Mosley as a great boxer, hes more of a speedy boxer-puncher. I agree that Cottos bodywork can slow Shane down, but I also believe that Mosleys combos and stregnth can stop Cotto in his tracks and back him up. It should be a very good fight, but I still think Shane can potentially beat Cotto at his own game. Cotto will ned to adjust in this fight like no other fight hes been in in order to win.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
If Cotto can get to Mosley's body early I think he has a shot....if not I believe Mosley will confuse and baffel to win by decision.....
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
Mosley should win this fight without a problem, he has the speed and the power and he is a very smart fighter.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I've never seen Mosely cut or seriously hurt in any fight except ofcourse when he fought Forrest, but other than that he had been solid like a rock and amazingly powerful for his size. If Cotto beats him soundly especially by knockout I'd say PBF should start worrying.

Forest and Wright had the size advantage against Mosely. The "azukal" shouldn't have a hard time with Cotto.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
Im Going against the grain here and I dont think mosley will have to out box cotto to win.judah was able to get side to side angels early on that left cotto in that dangerous leaning forward lurch.mosley has retained great hand speed and foot work that I think if he fires those tight burst and works side to side as opposed to in and out I think he can hit up cotto bad.
Cotto is a body brute and if mosley stays in close to often,he'll rip it up and follow to shanes head.I just think shanes overall speed can cause cotto major problems.Shane can adapt and change up as Cottos heart and guts takes over and IMO shane gets Tko 10
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
Mosley just turned 36 and like Whitaker, Chavez and Tszyu before him in recent times it's almost impossible
at the lower weights to be as good as 5 years before. Mosley will give Cotto a great fight but i doubt he can win as his power at 147lb and 154lb has not been as effective as it was at Lightweight.
I like Sugar Shane, he is a fantastic fighter and a great man for boxing, i hope he can bring his A game for our sake as fans. I think Cotto will win a UD, but i will be happy to be wrong in my prediction.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
Tyson should have beat Douglas
Judah should have beat Baldomir
Bojado should have beat Rubio
Curry should have beat Lloyd
Benvenutti should have beat Monzon
I personally don't think SSM falls under the 'should beat' category....
When I read SSM should beat Cotto IMO your selling Cotto short here. It's like your not taking into consideration how much he has grown as a boxer. I remember when ROCKYMARSHMELLOW and I got into a debate here cause he was saying that Cotto didn't have room to grow that Cotto would loose soon and that he had no future... I forget who was it that backed Rockys theory and said that he also agreed that Cotto had no future.... Well I disagreed with them and told him Cotto was gonna grow and was gonna improve cause he had time and room to improve as he went thru the ranks. Here we are about 2 yrs. later and Cottos still going strong.
I have almost all of Cottos career except for a fight or two but let me tell you man this kids really improved massively. I mean look at the way he finished Quintana off with body shots. Look at the way he finished off Zab with straight right hands and a uppercut.
I think the Cotto vs. SSM fight will start off a little like the Zab fight where SSMs hand speed and skill will cause him problems... Cotto being in the mind set he normally is he'll adjust to it as the fight moves forward and begin to take SSM apart.
Re: Mosley Should Beat Cotto
I like Miguel Cotto, but he's the most overrated fighter around, well, since Margarito lost anyways. Mosley, I think will beat Cotto a lot easier than most people think and I wouldn't be all that surprised if he took Cotto out in the first 6 rounds. The only thing working against Mosley in this fight is age. I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see Cotto VS PBF as its a great style matchup, but I don't see Cotto getting past SSM.

I've got a feeling Cotto could be KO'd too. He's a tough brawling come forward fighter who so far hasn't faught anyone who could really stand up to him.
Judah we all know crumbles under pressure, Torres aint shit, Malignaggi is feather fisted but still gave Cotto a tough time.
Against Urkal, a tough guy who could take a decent shot Cotto looked largely innefective at times.
I think guys like Mosely and Oscar are more than capable of beating him even at their advanced ages.
Will be a great fight for sure but I don't think for a second that this is an easy fight for Cotto.

I agree completely Bilbo, cc. I'm not a hater or anything, I quite like Cotto both as a fighter and as a person, but he's so amazingly overrated by some people - I've seen him put at #4 in some folks P4P list. Those are the best fighters he's beaten, and you summed their limitations up very well. I think the Malignaggi would've been A LOT closer if the deck hadn't been stacked against Paulie from the get go.
Edit: CC in 24.

Sorry you dont like my wording Mick, but believe me I appreciate Cotto as a boxer and I think he is great for the sport and a class act. I also think he is a hell of a fighter. I just feel that Mosley has the tools to beat him and nothing in Mosley has shown me otherwise. Cotto can beat Mosley sure.I just think that unless Mosley has got old I think he has more advantages. But, like I said dont get me wrong Cotto has done more than anyone can expect of him and even if he doesnt win this one he will lose nothing but his 0.
