Povetkin 226.6
Byrd 211.8 :o and i thought Evander was always coming in light to fight for a heavy...
Right now Byrd is just an overweight cruiser...
Still... I'm looking forward to this fight...

Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
Chris B. is such a nice guy and fine boxer, but even in his prime he would not stand a chance against this guy from Russian. Sasha will rule the division the next 5-8 years.
Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
I have a feeling Byrd is gonna get hurt really really bad in this fight.
Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
Anyone other than me think Chris has that "I don't really wanna be here" look in his eyes? He was laid off so long I thought he was retiring. The War Department must have put him back to work.
Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
is this even gonna be televised?
Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
Byrd has a ton of heart and Im sure he will give him a fight. Could be a good fight but I think Povetkin will stop him late.

Who the hell is "Sasha" and what are you talking about???
In his prime Chris Byrd would take a guy like Povetkin to school....if he doesn't throw quick straight punches and get his hands back in time to block counters he's going to have trouble.
Chris is always small because his style depends on speed and mobility and by mobility I don't mean running around the ring I mean bending and twisting his upper body avoiding punches. Byrd also needs stamina to make his style effective.
Chris Byrd's big mistake was changing his style from 100% defensive to a counter puncher who would stand and trade....he did it vs McCline, Golota, and Fres Oquendo and IMO he lost all those fights....you compare that style to what he was doing to Ibeabuchi through 4 rounds....he frustrated Ibeabuchi....and the fight vs Tua was good too.
Chris Byrd is a good fighter, he's just changed his style and gotten old...but he'll be a tough fight for Povetkin

It seems that people from exUSSR countries named "Alexander" get the nickname "Sasha" its the same
with Alexander Dimitrenko, don't ask why for I don't know... :dontknow:
And the things you said about Byrd are all true, but still he has a boring style...I haven't seen his
fight with DaVarryl Williamson, but from what I read here it must have been torture to watch and
even if Williamson surely played his part, boring matches happen pretty often to Byrd, beside those
where hes gotten ko'ed...
Still good opponent for Povetkin...remember that this is only his 14th fight ;) ...

Sasha has always been a shortened version of Alexander in Russian culture. It sounds like a girls name, and is used for naming females in Western countries, but has always been used as a nickname for boys named Alexander in Eastern Bloc countries. There's your history lesson for the day ;D
Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
Well Dimitrenko punches like a girl anyways so I guess the name fits him
Povetkin is a good fighter but something about him to me seems like Sultan Ibragimov....he doesn't thrive like Wladimir off of total boxing and power and distance....Povetkin likes getting in close and throwing more hooks than anything else, he's a swarming fighter and I don't like his chances vs the big boys of the division.
Povetkin-Arreola will be a fun match to see in the future
Chris Byrd is boring vs fighters who don't press the action....if you get a guy who will come in and throw Byrd will counter more and it's better to watch. VS Wlad he was just totally overmatched
Re: Povetkin, Byrd weigh-in...
I know that there is no money in it, but i wish that Byrd would have just chilled out in the cruisers. He would be a great man at cruiser.

Yeah Povetkin/Arreola would be a great fight for both right now, and would be real entertaining for as long as it lasted.
