Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
Just wondering personally.....from what i have read from british posters on here and from what i have heard from talking to casual boxing fans.
Seems like were all waiting for the wheels to fall off. Bilbo touched on something in an earlier thread. He said....
'In the UK we like our sporting stars to be humble and self effacing. Ideally they will also fall just short of true greatness, as we pride ourselves on failing admirably rather than winning dominantly.'
I'm wondering if Kahn is the exception to this in the way that he is very self confident and he doesn't look like he is going to fail admirably....barring the one fight he has been very dominant.
Is it the mentality of the British fans? We all seemed to want Audley to fail as well which is a bit strange.
ALSO.....
Hamed became disliked.....his own fault maybe
froch is fairly disliked
as is junior witter.....all quality fighters.
Do us Brits just not like cockiness? Is Amir Kahn cocky?
Can anybody shed any light on this?
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
I cant speak for the whole of Britain but I hope he fails. Just as everytime I watched Nas I was hoping someone knocked him cold.
I just like seeing cocky guys take a beating .
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
Britain doesn't want him cos he is from Pakistan - that is the truth.

well he's from bolton....but the general public are morons. Let's face it they let Mr Blobby get to number 1 in the charts.
I get the impression that race does come into it. Not speakin on behalf of anyone on this forum by the way. I mean from what i hear from the general public.....it's a shame because he is british but there ya go.....
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
Lets not turn this post into race as it has nothing to do with it what so ever.
I would love Khan to dominate hes got speed and his power seems to be coming with age...
BUT for me the hype around him is uncalled for as his chin will let him down at a higher level.
i'm a fan of Witters, Froch is OK and was a massive Naz fan.
but for me Khan is a novice with a suss chin and gets far to much credit... no more no less ;)

Yeah, I agree completely with you Saddo, this has nothing to do with race it is purely that Khan can be cocky at times, and there is an awful lot of hype about him which naturally means jealousy. Hopefully he'll develop the defence to protect that chin and at least compete at proper international level.

touchy subject.....that's why i never mentioned it in the initial post.
Disagree with him having a dodgy chin....and i believe personally that an olympic silver medal at 17 deserves huge credit.
So its the hype that annoys you the most! Fair point.

I think it's more confidence than cockiness.

Thats an interesting point, cuz I thought I hated all arrogant fighters but I like Witter, Floyd is the man, Joe used to be abit cocky and I like him so I suppose its the arrogance in the ring I dont like . Nas used to ask for it and Kahn has dropped his gloves a couple times . I liked Bomber Graham though
Didnt like Toney when he was a loudmouth but hes good . Camacho was another showman I loved watching get chopped down by Chavez .
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
The only defense Khan needs to learn is defensive driving, so he doesn't crack people crossing the street ;D J.K. :P
Re: Does Britain want Kahn to fail?
yeah nothing wrong with cockyness if you back it up ;)

yeah thats about the top and bottom of it for me he hasnt beat anyone and looked in trouble a few times at this piss poor level.... so all the hype is uncalled for ;)
his chin is suss though ;D
I also never liked the fact that boxers who have achived more where pushed to an itv3 spot while he was topping the bills on itv1

Nothing to do with it. I think he will fail before he gets to top level, the media are to blame for hyping him up to buggery in the first place. If he loses to an average fighter who has some clout Britain will look even more stupid for claiming Amir was so great and all. A bit like Naz but Naz DID have something very special which he totally fucked up with his overconfidence.

yeh the hype is annoying but i reckon us guys on here are capable of looking past the hype to make up our own mind about him. ITV just piss me off everytime they show boxing. So many good exciting fights they miss off the bill because they show 4 re runs of ami kahn fighting a sub teacher.
suppose that isn't kahn's faul tho.

i do see past the hype... listen i would love him to prove me wrong and be the future but there are a few sub standard boxers had him reeling so its inevitable that a higher class boxer will take him out.
just my opinion on him really... but saying all that i wish him well ;)
