Jose Luis Castillo

So he won on sat night did anybody catch him?

As for his future what does everyone see him doing?

A fight with Torres would be a war and i think his experience would see hom through it. A fight with Rees would be a definate chance of him getting the WBA title belt for sure. Against Witter and Malinagi i think he would struggle, these boys are really rising to be the names to beat at 140 and i think they have the tools to do it.

I think there is a chance he could be a champion again if he works for it. what do you think ? or is it too late for him ?

I didn't see the fight but heard he stopped the guy in the 6th round, with knockdowns i the 2nd and 4th I believe.

I didn't see his fight the weekend but he showed enough against Hatton, brief as it was, that he still has enough about him to be competitve with

Witter, Torres and Powderpuff..

Rees he'd beat.

Was glad to hear he won, and with the knockdowns ya would think it was in impressive style, but from peeps' i've spoke to that have seen the fight apparently he looked an old man in there, and not far from being finished.

The fight was at welterweight i believe?....., abit of a jump that like, carnt see him being to productive at that weight in the long or even short term, too many big names for Jose. If he stays there than i see a world of hurt for him down the path. :-\

I'd pick him against torres, rees and witter.

Castillo has the ability to beat many of the names around the 140 pound division. I am not really sure what happened to him in the Hatton fight, to me it almost seemed like he just lost all will and ability. Castillo has never been one to shy away from a war or be on the timid side of taking shots. I am in no way trying to take anything away from Ricky Hatton and his win I think no matter what he would have ended up with the victory. When I was watching the fight I just don't think Castillo was himself that night.

A win over Junior Witter is not out of the question, I think Paul Malinaggi would be too slick for him. I don't think Castillo could knock him out even if he did catch Paulie often. If Miguel Cotto could not KO him, Castillo's chances don't look promising either. A knockout is the only way he would get the win.

I am not in a rush to consider Castillo done with as a force in the division. Another fight or two will give the answer for sure.

Castillo is not a contender anymore. He's been through too many wars, and at this point he can't make the lower weights anymore, so he's fighting at divisions where he can't be effective.

Castillo needs to keep fighting for financial reasons, so I see him transitioning from a contender to a stepping-stone opponent, or a trialhorse in other words.

If a young up and coming prospect at 140 or 147 needs to fight an experienced veteran with a big name, then he'll fight someone like Castillo.

I read that it was at welter as well. I don't give much of a shot at all against even a semi-decent welter.

Personally I'd like to see him put in with Gavin Rees, I reckon it'd be an interesting fight, possibly involving Castillo holding him off like a father with a swinging child with one hand, and hitting him with the other.

Witter would also be a decent fight, though I have my doubt that Junior's "World beater" ego would allow him to strike a deal with Ricky Hatton's scraps.

I think it would make big money if held in Sydney.
And before u smart ass Hatton fans say anything, it would be a fight of two former greats, not Hatton rejects..... ;D

I think that would work in the same way that RJJ v Tito works, in that it isn't a young hopeful v and old guy past his prime, but if both fighters are former world champions, they could be competitive at a slightly lower level. Better than seeing them both facing chumps I would think.

Exactly. The last thing anyone wants for either of these guys is to find they've been in there too long and just take a bucketload of big headshots, because the ref thinks "Oh, this guy's a legend, I'm sure he'll come back somehow."

I actually think that Castillo trys to fight Rees or Torres, i actually think he is capable of winning the fight and progressing more into a solid 140 fighter. I hope he does, he will be good for the devision.
