Use of the Forearm in boxing
Can you guys explain what is allowed and what isnt?
The reason i ask is i was sure Floyd fouling badly for long periods in his fight.
I mean holding is one thing, but shoving a forearm in someones face ??? I was suprised that Cortez didnt pick up on it.
Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
It was a foul ridden match. Not surprised that one foul was missed but all night?

When i had quick look at this thread i thought it said, *Use Of The Foreman In Boxing* :-\
Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
fine, tell Ricky not to use his head and shoulders, hold and hit, hold and hit behind the head, twist peoples arms.
oh wait that's right he wasn't allowed to like every other of his fights so people are bitching.
Excessive use of anything will get you penalised.
I've not been a massive fan of either boxer but really ::**

Woooooooooo hold back, hold back. He asked what is the rule on the use of the forearm in boxing is. And...anymore of that eye rolling and us boys might just send you back to the kitchen Missy ;);D
Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
It was a smart move, though I'm not sure if it was legal. Since it was obvious Ricky was going to fight inside and tried to stay real close, Floyd just shoved him a bit with his forearm/elbow to create a space for him to counter - simple but a smart move against inside offense.
Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
Look Ricky went out to turn this into a brawl. He didnt want a boxing match, he wanted a dirty out and out toe to toe war. Mayweather gave him that and proved that he can brawl when he has to. Hatton himself admitted he was surprised by this and I must admit do was I.
I thought the one way to beat PBF was to push hi out of his comfort zone and get him into a wrestling match where the quality of his speed, reflexes and defence would be diminished. But credit to Floyd, bigger man or not, he stood toe to toe and came out on top.

lmao settle down,
Ok so if hatton wasn't allowed his "tactics" why was pbf- allowed to use the elbows? Mmm hmm
excessive use gets you penalized? how many rabbit punches did ricky attempt before the deductions
how many elbows were used before the pbf's deduction? Oh wait, thats right, there was none.

i also believe the fact that pbf was able to use this tactic and hatton was getting scolded like stealing cookies before dinner led to alot of hattons frustrations

Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
People who say Hatton wasn't able to use his style at all are full of shit, there were many points they fought his fight, and he was effective in a few of them, but most of the time Mayweather still got the better of it. I am pretty use the forarm is illegal, but Mayweather uses it sneakily so its harder for the ref to see, and he punches right after he uses it and usually the refs won't break it up, but Mayweather was cautioned as well all fight about hitting behind the head, fighting dirty, and using the elbow. Its not like Hatton was the only one who was being cautioned, I think Cortez is allowed to breaking up clinches because I am sure HBO didn't want this highly televised PPV to be a hug fest. However I feel Mayweather should have eventually gotten a point deducted, but the thing is, is that he uses that elbow and after he's cautioned he doesn't use it for awhile, and in that big of a fight when it happens 2 or 3 rounds later the ref might forget what happened earlier.
Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
Can anybody get past the tit-tat and just tell me the freakin rules ???
I ask you, serioulsy...Was Joe Cortez right to let Floyd shove his arm in Hattons Chest/ Eye/ Ear like that?
Especially AFTER deducting a point off of Hatton for mearly throwing a right hander AFTER floyd was dipping riddiculously low AND turning his back.... Who turns their back on a fighter anyway ???
Re: Use of the Forearm in boxing
Also ::**
While i rememeber to ask...
Is it fair to pressume that if a fighter dips below waist level that it is illigal to punch as the only viable place to strike is on the back of the head?
Should it not then be the case that any fighter should not be permitted to contort to such unearthly disfiguremnet :D ??? :-\
..... Phhh! Im never gonna get anywhere with this question, i just know it ;D
