Mayweather mulling move to MMA
Floyd Mayweather Jr., the world's No. 1 boxer, is strongly considering a revolutionary jump to mixed martial arts under a deal being discussed with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser and best friend, told ESPN.com Friday night that the five-division world champion, who generated 3.25 million pay-per-view buys and more than $200 million in revenue in two mega fights in 2007, came away from a Thursday meeting with Cuban giving serious thought to taking his game and considerable drawing power to MMA.

Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
Wow if this really is true it is sensational news. I cna't believe it though, it just has to be all talk I think.
That the world's best p4p fighter, in his absolute prime would risk embarrassment and humiliation fighting in a sport in which he has no training would be the worst career move since Les Dennis decided to go on Celebrity Big Brother.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
Maybe Ricky should join up to, as he's got good hold and hug tactics and may be able to hump his way to a decision over Floyd in MMA
Floyd will get owned in MMA. His hands will break with those 4 oz. gloves and he'll get CTFO. I could name 5 guys that would literally inhale that dude. Stick with boxing and fight Cotto. Can't wait to see what Danny G comes up with on this thread :lolhaha:
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
MMA is for poofs and queers
There isn't a chance in the world that Mayweather will take it up.
He's just concidering his options.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
HAAAA,Well he has the elbow down pat. He'll be calling out "Cabbage" in no time. Some of those more brutal types might take the term "ground & pound" to extremes with Floyd :-X
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
I can't see this happening
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
floyd has no future in mma, guys there would love to pound a so called boxing p4p best.
floyd will end up fighting at lightweight, little evil will bust him up on the ground or B.J will just toy with him til he quits.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
I don't think this is true. Why? Way too high risk and low reward. On the other hand,if he DOES decide to do it,he can earn huge $$$, lose and come back to boxing(although MMA fans will be laughing their asses off that the P4P number 1 was tooled in thier sport!) I'd much rather see Mayweather get into the boxing ring thanks.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
Money May is getting in on the money making side. Promotions, using his name to make money. That is why he got with Cuban because he make alot of money.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
I really hope he goes to MMA and see how he takes the loss  . Any boxer is not experienced using their legs and I can see guys kicking and kicking until they wear those legs out just like Butterbean when he lost against that other guy (forgot his name). I am sure that if they only boxed, Butterbean would have the advantage but those kicks really made it complicated for ButterBean.

Anything to avoid Cotto my man.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
Weird... However If he actually did decide to make the jump, I think a lot of you are overrating how he would just get owned, or toyed with.. His "striking ::**" ability is still better than likely anyone at the weight he could fight. I've seen Jens Pulver and BJ Penn, Shawn Sherk and a few of the other big UFC names at 155.. Far as I know they don't have a weight lower then that, correct ???.. I think even despite the addition of kicks, elbows, clinching and all, in terms of stand up he would still be an excellent MMA fighter. It's not as if it's something he couldn't train at either. Im sure he has a huge aspect of his training regimen that would make it very easy for him to master take down defence and such. Also, if it's really some deal being made with Cuban and all, I think his first opponent(s) would likely be handpicked, perhaps decent fighters but with a horrible stand up defence, guys who are easy to hit even by the more amatuerish punchers of MMA. It's interesting.. Id rather he just fight Cotto or Williams at WW first though, but the drawing potential if something actually became of it is huge.
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
mayweather is just desperate for the one thing he will never get, he wants people to care about him and he wants to be popular to a mainstream demographic, NEVER will this happen, but thats what this is about, he wants the fans who only watch the UFC and know little about boxing to hear his name and wonder who he is, he has no plans of actually fighting

these guys are UFC guys, alot of the UFC is SHITTY at standup, also his guard wouldnt be effective against kicks, especially leg kicks, anyway even the worst of the worst UFC guys would probably have little trouble taking him down without getting hurt, and then it would be all over
mayweather knows this tho, and he will never figt
and if for some reason he was made to believe that fighting an MMA bout would give him the acceptance he wants so much he would be lined up against a complete can who knows how to do NOTHING but throw shitty punches, and wouldnt even attempt a takedown
Re: Mayweather mulling move to MMA
One of mayweathers biggest defense tactics would be GONE in mma, (rules of boxing). He would get destroyed.
I hate boxing to mma comparisons. I love boxing, and mma can be entertaining at times but to mix the two together in a topic of conversation is well....Poop
