Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
Ok I know it's still a little soon to talk of this seeing as Amir hasn't even won a European title yet but I imagine if Amir progresses in 08 as much as he did in 07 the clamour for a domestic showdown could really be building in 2009.
Hatton says he has 5 more fights which will probably mean retirement in 2010 and by then Khan should be close to his prime.
He looks an absolute monster at lightweight and I can't see him being able to stay there for all that much longer, my guess is after this coming year he'll move up to light welter.
This for me is the biggest domestic fight in boxing. The two most popular mainstream fighters in British boxing since Frank Bruno and Henry Cooper I can't imagine a bigger fight in the UK than this.
Do you think it will happen? I really hope so.
I also think if they meet any time after 2009 that Khan will do to Hatton what Lennox Lewis did to Gary Mason and Frank Bruno.
Fingers crossed that this fight happens cos I'd fucking love to see it!
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
Khan's a good prospect but I do have to say I find it funny how he much better he got in one fight. After the Limond fight he was a chinless wonder waiting to get knocked out by middling opposition and now he's the best prospect in boxing.
BTW not necessarily saying you, I have no idea what you've said about Khan in the past, for all I know you've been high on him the whole time. But it is kind of funny how quickly things can change.
As for the fight though Khan does seem big for the weight so a move to 140 is probably likely. Would Warren be willing to step up Khan up that much in the next 2 or so years?

haha yeah I've been the lone guy up front on the Khan bandwagon for most of 07. I made a post after the Limond victory about how he showed great heart and a fighters insitinct to overcome adversity and destroy his opponent after being put down but most people laughed at me.
I'm used to such displays of ridicule when I post though ::**

No you haven't. I've been chilling out on that very same bandwagon throught 06 & 07 handing 'told you so's' where i deemed it appropriate (every time he won)
I don't think Warren will ever put him in with Hatton unless there is absolutely no chance of Hatton winning......and if it ever gets that bad for Hatton, he'll hang em up beforehand.
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
I don't think we'll hear much from Hatton after his next loss
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
And who do you thinks gonna deal this next loss to Ricky then Vd?

I think we may well see this fight in two or three years. Warren would be the biggest obsticle, but the money involved might be much that all sides can reach a compromise. Khan is clearly destined for 140 and probably 147 at some point and it would be a huge fight.

If he fights Witter next, he loses. Before I would of picked Hatton to win, but not no more. I now think Witter takes him now. If he fights Maglinaggi next he loses. Again, before I would of picked Hatton to easily crush him. But based on his recent comments and non-stop crying it's obvious Hatton has taken the Mayweather loss real hard. I think Paulie's slap and run style will beat him. If he fights De La Hoya he'll get murder. Simple as that.

This fight would be funkin MAHOOSIVE over here.. it's got to have been talked about as a possible for the near future
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
In answer to the question, I reckon that unfortunately, Warren is going to keep bringing on Khan slowly, much slower than Khan would probably like, and that their careers will miss each other by a year or two in the end.
However, if Khan ever makes it to a really high level...what odds on him tempting Ricky out of retirement for a huge fight?

As for Witter, I really don't see him having the speed to do to Hatton what he did to Harris. Witter likes a slow paced fight, and likes to measure all his shots, and I don't think he'd deal as well as Mayweather did with Hatton's swarming attacks.
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
It will never happen, Hatton will only fight two maybe three more times and Khan isn't going to be one of them. Put Khan in with the K-Man Katsidis and see what happens!!! Warren won't let that happen either!
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
I think how quickly Khan comes through depends on Diaz. If Diaz is still around at 135 for the next year or so Khan will not reach that level in my opinion although I do see him as a future 135, 140 World champion.
Khan Katsidis would be great but I do not see that happening for a whilst yet, if at all.
As for Khan v Hatton I will be surprised if this comes off but if there is any chance Khan could win then I think Warren would go for it to get one over Ricky for leaving him. Just my 2 cents. Khan already has longer reach, a height advantage and will not stop growing until he is 21. He will be even bigger then and more filled out.

He's only been a pro two years and he's already the Commonwealth champ! Providing he doesn't lose he'll be British and European champ for this year and then a world title would be likely in 2009.
He wants his shot before July to beat Naz's youngest every British world champ record so it may even be possible that should a miracle occur and Gavin Rees actually wins his upcoming title defense Khan may get a shot at him.
Re: Will we ever see Ricky Hatton fight Amir Khan?
Yes I believe it will happen as Frank has been approaching Ricky.
That guy is a master planner and I'd say he's thinking ahead.
