Pretty Strange How Jose Luis Castillo Gave Floyd Mayweather Jr So Much Trouble.
I mean if you look at Castillo fighting without hindsight of the Mayweather fights, you wouldn't even think he would win 4 rounds against Mayweather. But there was something with the way he ducked and come up with his punches that was giving Mayweather so much trouble. Even in the rematch he was still giving Mayweather a lot of problems by ducking and coming up with his shots. im not saying Castillo isn't a good fighter but with his come forward style you would think this would be a perfect stylistic match up for Mayweather like it had been with all the other pressure fighters Mayweather fought, but yet he gave him so much trouble. Even if you look back there is nothing to suggest that Castillo would give Mayweather two tough fights. I know its just one of those things where a boxer has your number, but you would think this would be perfect match up for Mayweather because he fights best when his opponent is constantly pressuring him.
Re: Pretty Strange How Jose Luis Castillo Gave Floyd Mayweather Jr So Much Trouble.
A few things that probably helped JLC.
1. He is probably more skilled than the other come forward fighters PBF has fought.
2. He had a big experience advantage over Floyd at that stage.
3. PBF has improved since the JLC fights.
Re: Pretty Strange How Jose Luis Castillo Gave Floyd Mayweather Jr So Much Trouble.
i think its about time we stop thinking what castillo did in that fight would be a blue print in beating floyd. floyd was younger and now his older and better so looking back at that fight i think makes no improvement in a way to beat floyd. im sure floyd knows what castillo did to give him some trouble and thats why im sure he has worked on it and will make sure he won't be trouble by whatever castillo did again. i think the first fight was close it could of gone either way more so to castillo but the rematch showed floyd was improved and won u.d. All fighters come across atleast one tough fight, that was floyds and lets leave it at that. just me 2 cent ;D

Im not saying its blueprint on how to beat Mayweather Rains, although one tactic Castillo did by using patient aggression and picking his shots very well is one tactic to use against Mayweather. and i also think Cotto could give Mayweather trouble with his patient aggression as well. Because Cotto uses a good jab to close the distance between himself and his opponent. Plus he picks his punches very well, there was just something about Castillo's style that bothered Mayweather just like Norton vs Ali, Forrest vs Mosley.
Re: Pretty Strange How Jose Luis Castillo Gave Floyd Mayweather Jr So Much Trouble.
you know the only thing i remember from that fight is floyd on the ropes covering up and thinking how good he was avoiding the shots..... without me going to boxrec wasnt that floyds first fight as the weigh also.
cant remember the ducking low but if you look at Sugar Ray Robinson vs Randolph Turpin you will see the success he had beating the great boxer with a low style and also the problems he caused SRR in the rematch because of the low style.
not sure if that is what you mean but as it just came to me because of this post i thought i'd mention it ;)

Thing is, most Floyd fans say was at his best at that weight.

What was the point of that comment? I think most PBF fans would say his best weights were 130-140, but he is good all the way to 154.

I understand, but if theres a fight to look at to know how to give floyd trouble i think we should look at.....(drum rolls) believe it or not....the first half of the judah fight. dont you guys dare think im a fan of judah for saying this but imo judah gave floyd some real trouble in the first half even knocking floyd down(gloves touch canvas). Judah is the most recent fighter to give floyd much trouble beside half ass dela hoya ;D
i think the castillo fight is way too long ago and im sure floyd has made adjustment to not let that kind of style bother him again. Floyd is floyd, he works 24/7 if theirs a more raw flaw in floyd i think we should look at the judah fight but then again floyd may have already figure that out cause he did dominate the second half. Well if my theory is right, it was more so because judah gas out allowing floyd to pick him apart.

i don't think floyd was at his best at 130 or 135, i think his overrated there. if ever we place him as a great fighter it should be at welterweight but he hasn't really fought true welterweight. Its floyds own fualt why its hard to really determine how great he is.

Surely that is a wind up post!
Overrated at 130 and 135?
14 title defenses at 130 and 135
Beat
Genaro Hernandez
Angel Manfredy
Diego Corrales
Carlos Hernandez
Jesus Chavez
Jose Luis Castillo x 2
The combined record of his opponents in title bouts at those weights was 471-30!!!
If PBF is overrated at 130 and 135 then every fighter in history is overrated!
Re: Pretty Strange How Jose Luis Castillo Gave Floyd Mayweather Jr So Much Troub
I actually think he was at his best at Super Featherweight, he had great power at that weight and his speed was amazing. He stopped tough guys like Genaro Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Diego Corrales, Angel Manfredy, etc. out of 26 Super Featherweight fights only 6 went the distance and he also had a good KO/TKO ratio in Title fights, and lets remember his opposition at Super Featherweight was pretty good.
Re: Pretty Strange How Jose Luis Castillo Gave Floyd Mayweather Jr So Much Troub
I thought he was best between 130 and 140 physically. He had great power and his speed was something else entirely. He is not the same at 147 physically, but he is smarter. Floyd is smarter and more experienced than he was then. He also could afford to trade a lot more at his more natural weights and had some great brawls against great fighters. That Jesus Chavez fight was a great one as was the Carlos Hernandez.

I totally agree with this part i put in bold good posting CC.
The Jesus Chavez fight was awesome Chavez was like a madman, he kept throwing and throwing punches and Mayweather had to really dig deep especially in the 9th round when he snapped Chavez's head back with uppercuts. The Hernandez fight was good up until Mayweather broke his hand but he showed great heart plus he used his boxing brain very well by fighting southpaw and pawing with his damaged hand and using his left hand in the southpaw stance.
N'dou vs Mayweather has to be one of Mayweather's most exciting fights that was a slug fest from start to finish.

not really basing it on his accomplishment there, im just saying his just as good above those weight but he hasn't done as much accomplishment above 135 which prolly is why his overrated in a sense of overlooking his just as good or even better above that weight. personally i think floyd could beat every one at 147 but the problem is his just not fighting them all or alteast the top guys, thats why if he does people won't say his best at 130-135. After he does beat everyone at 147 thats when they'll notice his even better at 147. Which is my point, imo his ovveratted at 130-135 cause yea due to his accomlishment there and lack of accomplishment at 147.
