Bracing myself for Saturday night....
If my conversations with fellow boxing fans here in Puerto Rico are any indication, optimism is not at an all-time high here. And if factors like the two-year layoff, the weight factor (170?!? Tito didn't do that well at 160!) aren't enough.... now the reports are that RJJ looks focused and sharp, whereas Tito looks a bit lethargic and slow.
So I'm prepared to catch hell come Saturday night. Don't get me wrong.... I'll be rooting my head off for Tito. And the rum-and-cokes will NOT be in short supply. But..........
In any case, I hope the press doesn't treat Tito too badly should he lose. He's not the first ATG to come back for another day in the spotlight. (And he won't be the last). I just hope it's a good fight.

Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
i think it'll be a big win for tito even though both are past their best, but i think roy will win this impressively could be via k.o 4th round.
i too hope it'll be a good one though, if roy is hesitant tito can take advantage of the pace.
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
yeah cant see this being a good weekend for a Trinidad fan....
there was talk of this fight happening when they had the 1 and 2 spot in the p4p lists... but we are along way from them days.
i hope for your sake that Tito finishes on his feet mate and retires with his dosh as he has nothing left to prove in this sport ;)
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
From what little I've seen of Tito lately, he is really flabby. I'm not convinced he's serious just looking at him, but this IS boxing and anything can happen. I am almost flip flopping and rooting for RJJ, just because that Calzaghe fight in Wales would be sweet. May the best man win....
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
i never though i'd see this fight so no matter what the result is, im just going to enjoy tito and roy duke it out.

I hear ya, Saddo. You know, funny thing is... I've also been a Jones Jr. fan for many years, as he's always been a highly entertaining, and incredibly gifted boxer.
I think the biggest factor is the weight. I can't imagine what the matchmakers were thinking. Tito struggled at 160 (Joppy being his best showing).... so I guess it makes sense (NOT) to send him in against Jones Jr. at 170.
As for Tito finishing on his feet... I hear you there also. But should Tito find the sweet spot with one of those left hooks of his, and the improbable should happen.... I'll probably be the one not to finish on MY feet (LOL).

Even if he loses as long as he puts up a respectable showing and does not throw an attitude after the fight...being a good loser is not Tito's strong point something I always felt was a downside of Trinidad..a real champion takes a loss graciously...The press won't blast him too bad......
Well at least we won't at Saddo Boxing ;)

LOL..... it's that wink that's got me nervous D.K.
But yeah.... if Tito loses, I hope he takes it graciously. Not an easy thing in this ego-filled sport we call boxing, but still....
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
Shame this fight didn't happen about 6 years ago but Hopkins spoiled the plan.
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
Not really keen on this ....Event....but I do think Jones will take it via tko mid way.
Thing is,even thoughTito was pudgy at Middleweight and cannot make his mind up on WHY he is fighting.........I think he will go all out for Ko and Set the pace here.If he can come close with power and keep Jones uneasy,I think Roy will be doing everything to avoid him (and a good fight).
Tito has a shot and will stand his ground and sell out for his power(I pray)....I dont see Jones doing the same.Really hope Tito can find the soft spot on Jones,Im dreading all of the "Im back,Bring on Calzaghe,Hopkins,"etc.
Jones is clinging to memories of greatness at this point.
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
One aspect to this fight that's hard to predict is how each one would react if and when he gets tagged. If Tito connects on Roy, will the power be there at 170? Will RJJ's previous losses by KO make him "softer" for a power shot by Tito? Or will Roy just shake it off and get bolder? What about when Tito gets tagged? Especially if he gets caught cold in the first couple of rounds. Will he be able to shake it off and get into the middle rounds? If Jones Jr. sees that he has rocked Tito a bit... will he pounce on the opportunity and go for the early KO? Or would he hesitate thinking about a counter-punch?
Lots to consider in this fight.
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
I am a huge RJJ fan so i'm rooting for him, but i really like Tito too. I hope Tito finishes on his feet. For me, that will be a fitting way to go out. Maybe not winning but showing that championship heart. Tito is a ATG no matter what happens on saturday.
Re: Bracing myself for Saturday night....
If Winky easily outpointed Tito Roy will do the same.
