Trinidad-Jones over 400K PPV Buys. Tito Earns $14 Million

Not bad for a fight nobody was really interested in:

According to a recent report on El Vocero of Puerto Rico, Felix Trinidad arrived home with two whopping checks that totaled slightly more than his earning for his super bout with Oscar De La Hoya at approximately $14 Million Dollars.

Trinidad's attorney Nicolás Medina conceded that Trinidad made at least $7 million plus over $2 million on PPV buys. However, they also had another agreement with King that sweetened the purse.

"Tito was well protected during the negotiation process and right after the fight we picked up both of our checks in full" said Mr. Medina. "Tito put on a great show and I think there were at least 15K people at the Garden. Furthermore, the people of Puerto Rico should be proud. Tito gave is all and has always carried the name of Puerto Rico high in the world."

As far as Roy Jones, his purse was not guaranteed but should be at least the $5 million dollars that was estimated prior to the bout

Roys purse was dependant on PPV and ticket sales.

But Trinidad was always a major attraction.

Remember until last year (Oscar-Floyd) Tito-Oscar easily held the non-heavyweight PPV record.

As the undisputed champ Hopkins got $2.5m to Titos $9m when they fought.

I can understand B Hop as he's about as exciting as listening to a Stephen Hawkings lecture but Roy Jones is one of the most flashy and exciting fighters of all time. I would have thought he'd be crazy popular?

It is a little surprising, but he spent YEARS fighting uncompetitive fights against no-names. Jones got $10m for the Ruiz fight - his highest purse.

Wow! No wonder he was smiling after the fight!

Roy was never a big draw the way Tito was. Roy was dominating his division with such ease and beating up people so onesidedly that there was no intrigue to his fights. Everybody knew no one was going to beat him so there was no point watching it unless it was to see Roy perform.

Tito on the other hand was alwais facing big challenges and was getting knocked down and was knocking people out. It is very rare to see a boring fight when Tito was in the ring. And after the DLH fight, he became almost as big as him.

I said it before once if Tito had not retired after Hopkins and stayed busy, I have no doubt he would be as big as DLH when it came to big events.

Where are you getting 400K PPV buys from? I don't see it mentioned in the article you posted and I'm not finding that figure anywhere online.

Making this kind of money Titowould be stupid to pack it in now .

I think he boxed well last Sat . He didnt look like a shot fighter . If he just moved down to a weight where his power had an effect then I think he could relaunch his career . Someone mentioned Lacy and that would be interesting but I think he needs to get down to atlerast middle cuz these guys are just gonna walk through his shots and as weve seen without his power he doesnt have much .

I enjoyed the fight it held my interest.

Damn. Tito made a lot more than Roy. 14 million for gettin knocked down twice ain't too bad.

i also would like to say that this might be his last big money fight, if he choses to fight again, hes not going to get much since roy kicked his butt.
