man what happen, did he get hit by the hockey stick to his neck? thats horrible, they should start wearing neck protections.
I never got into hockey but watching a hockey game is a lot similar to a football game. Its like a great big party, everyone waiting for a touchdown that seem to rarely come or a goaling that seem to rarely come. then when it happens boom "get down with the party, hey!" haha ;D
[Gulp] I hope he's alright after that. You could tell by the look on his face he was shocked and really didn't know what to think about his injury... :o:-\ MAN that was awful.
man does he even feel that or is his nerves just in pause and the blood just gushing out :-\
I think the ski blade cut his wind pipe.
That Is pretty f!!!! up. Fubar.Crazy how they could not resist and ran the Commercial without fading away to Video. What happened to the guy ?
If that was the Richard Zednik incident from about a week ago, his teammates skate came up and cut his carotid artery. He's been released from hospital by now I think. He was smart enough to immeaditly skate towards his bench. Apparently he passed out in the tunnel on the way out of the rink from blood loss while they waited for an ambulance.
Something similar happened to goalie Clint Malarchuk about 10-15 yrs ago, his jugular got slit and the only reason he survived is that a member of the training staff had been a medic in Vietnam and he managed to hold the vein closed with his fingers until paramedics arrived. Malarchuk said his only thought was to get off the ice so his mother didn't have to see him die as she was watching the game.
A neck guard wouldn't do jack shit, those skate blades are as sharp as razors. Kevin Bieksa, who plays defense for the Vancouver Canucks (my team) has a skate blade cut through his hockey sock, through the light amount of padding, and sever his achilies tendon I think it was earlier this year. That stuff would have been as thick, or thicker than a neck guard, plus hockey players need to be able to look down into their feet to see the puck.
One thing they're talking about is making visors on helmets manditory, but the players don't want that either. Sami Salo, another Canuck, has his nose and cheek bone shattered by a puck earlier this year as well, in the same game as Bieksa's injury.
Getting cut by skates is not that common though, just freak occurances.
Ok don't get me ring I have nothing but sympathy for the poor man and hope he makes a quick and full recovery but the way it was handled by the tv station was hilarious.
The happy jinggly music they put on whilst he was being attended to was laughably innapropriate and the commentator made me laugh when he said 'you know people wonder why athletes are paid so much money'.....and then goes 'well you can't pay me enough money to be prepared to watch that' no mention of the poor man who had to suffer the injury.
Ah well hope he's better now. I wonder how long before X finds the Iraqi version which features a full beheading to the goalie? :-X
...that's pretty bad, Paul Karyia had a pretty bad accident in hockey when someone stepped on his forearm....and guys have been smacked in the face with the puck before as well.
Zednick is damned lucky and smart to have skated to the bench...he lost like 5 pints of blood or something crazy like that
Oh by the way I did a google search on Richard Zednick and actually the clip you posted isn't it.
The clip is actually from 1989 and a player called Malarchak or something.
Zednick was an outfield player and there are vids of that on youtube too.
Incdently, Malarchak, the guy in Gorillas vid, returned to pratcise only 4 days laters after having 300 stitches!
Only two weeks after the incident he was back playing again!
A swedish player Bengt Akerblom died of the same injury in 1995 though
