Hopkins could've won, probably should've won, but he didn't!!

Not taking anything away from Joe, who won the fight imo, but I think it was more of a case of Hop losing the fight rather than Joe winning it.
Hopkins was great for 3 rounds, but thereafter you just cannot make a case for him winning with that work rate and punches thrown/landed. I know its 'cuda wud shuda' but Hopkins is so frusrating because the fight was there to win, just like both Taylor fights, but he does not have the work rate plain and simple. It was very close, but being completely objective Joe won the fight, but it wasn't impressive and could've been a different story. Massive props to Joe for getting off his arse with a nasty cut, away from home and digging deeep to nick the win

That sounds like I was rooting for B-Hop which I very much wasn't by the way ;)

That's a bs scorecard... Calzaghe wasn't landing shit all, and Hopkins won more rounds early, and definitely more down the stretch.

Hopkins was winning the first quarter of the fight. But that's just pretty much about him. :-\

I think it was basically to be expected that Joe would win a very close fight which he wouldn't look good in. Hopkins is just too old to throw a lot of solid punches as the fight progresses. Though Calzaghe edged it imo, and I picked him to win, not that it matters.. The people saying he was going to dominate Hopkins should feel stupid. Nobody dominates Hopkins and Calzaghe certainly didn't have the style to do so.

I'll do my scorecard later but i felt Hopkins won more rounds than that.

I'lll show mine as well, but Hopkins was getting the better of the fight for the first 6 rounds not four, and he won a couple of rounds down the stretch. I had him up 4-2 in the first 6 rounds then I had him winning two rounds down the stretch.

I can't see which round from 4-6 you could give him, and I think 5,6,8 & 9 were quite clearly JC. 7 & 10 very close

I think his fight gives Roy Jones a good blueprint of how to fight Calzaghe but I am not sure Roy can jump in and out the way he used to....infact I am certain he won't be able to do it.

If RJJ was in his prime hell yeah I think he could beat the Calzaghe that fought last night

Without a doubt! And to be fair prime RJJ would beat any version of JC imo, BUT the JC of last night was one of the worst performances of his career imo

Well when Joe is able to throw more flurries he's more effective...he just got in too close to B-Hop and Hopkins was abloe to clinch and slow down the fight.

Both fought strategically tough fights and tried to use everything to their advantage. Hopkins slowing the pace allowing for an ugly fight and Calzaghe throwing more punches trying to keep his hands free....they were both successful at times but I think Joe won the fight fair and square.


I think RJJ is happy he won't have to fight Hopkins because IMO RJJ is too old to deal with Hopkins' style and those right crosses and headbutts would be the end of Ol' Roy

I'll have to watch it again, but one of those rounds you mentioned were quite clearly for Calzaghe, I just don't agree... throwing missing punches does nothing for me unless B-Hop didn't throw anything. B-Hop was finding it much easier to land, I think Compubox was up their ass thinking Bernard didn't land a higher percentage of the punches he threw than Calzaghe let alone Calzaghe landing over 1/3 the punches he threw... I don't even see him landing 1/5th the punches he threw.

I don't think you need to fight in and out against Calzaghe, you just need to force him to come to you, and have the timing to counter him, Calzaghe comes in sometimes with ridiculous hooks that a faster fighter like Roy, even at his old age, should be able to counter, but I don't doubt he will be quick enough of foot to create the distance in order to make a fight with Calzaghe a chess match, but if he does he definitely wins IMO, just like I feel a young B-Hop I could easily see winning almost every round against Calzaghe, not because Calzaghe is ridiculously outclassed, but because he isn't a great fighter coming forward.

Thats exactly how i had it EXCEPT for one of the calzaghe rounds i gave as a draw...giving calz a 115, 113 win.

Hopkins put calz down in the first, was a bit of a flash knock down and calz got up totally unaffected instantly, but a kd is a kd none the less and it showed hopkins outclassing him.

However, from the 3rd round on calzaghe started to adapt and figure out hopkins.

WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE TO ARGUE WITH THE FACTS? They are so so so stupid if they say calz slapped hopkins, there was an occassion in round 10 where bhop looked like he was going down, he was rocked badly from a calzaghe hook and had to clinch to survive.

All in all i was impressed with bops effort in the fight, but calzaghe was simply too good, adapted his game and took the fight to hopkins, the aggressor started BOSSING the fight against hopkins negative philly style and picking great punches off on him .

People cant argue with the facts from compubox!!!

THE FACTS CLEARLY SHOW CALZAGHE LANDED MORE PUNCHES AND HAD A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF HIS PUNCHES LAND ASWELL. He hurt bhop bad in the 10th.

If it wasnt for the knockdown in the first then it woulda been a pretty 1 dimensional fight. But in the end it was calzaghe's ability to adapt and then relax into his unique boxing style and then boss hopkins around the ring, hopkins was spent by the 8th round and tried every dirty tactic (totally unsportsmanlike to take 4 minutes off for a blow that wasnt even low!)...for anyone that says hopkins won...DELUSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
