Now that's I've watch it sober - here's my Calz-Hop card - any comments?
OK,
I left for Mexico the morning after the fight, and I haven't had chance to comment on the result. I also like to watch a fight more than once before I start a thread. Yesterday I rewatched the fight closely with the sound off and scored it. I was drinking when I watched it the first time, and I came away thinking that Joe won clearly. I remember thinking the Lederman card was pretty good. With the sober second watching, I came to different conclusion - Joe won - barely - and there were enough swing rounds that I can see why Hopkins fans are pissed. I like Joe, but I'm not his biggest fan, and I appreciate Hopkins. In fact, I really paid attention to some of the inside fighting that is easy to miss drunk and easy to miss if you aren't a strong judge. Enough talking.
Here's my card. I'm noting all the rounds that I consider swing rounds.
H - C
1 10 8
2 10 9 (swing)
3 10 9
4 9 10 (swing)
5 10 9 (swing)
6 9 10 (swing)
7 10 9 (swing)
8 9 10
9 9 10
10 9 10 (swing)
11 9 10
12 9 10 (swing)
Hopkins 113 Calzaghe 114
Swing rounds won - Hopkins 3, Calzaghe 4.
That's a damn close fight. I think Hopkins gets penalized for fighting ugly and holding. I also think that other than the first rounds, even though Hopkins land more of the really meaningful punches, they didn't have much effect on Calzaghe. If Hopkins punchers were as effective as he claims, Calzaghe should have been getting weaker as the time went on and showing effects of the blows. Still, close, close fight. Calz got SD and that's about what he deserved, but he's didn't lose or get stuck with a draw.
Re: Now that's I've watch it sober - here's my Calz-Hop card - any comments?
Man i've watched many a fight tore up, just to see it the next day and realize, i'm pretty much watching it for the first time lol !!
Re: Now that's I've watch it sober - here's my Calz-Hop card - any comments?
I watched it pissed with a few mates after coming back from a wedding.
We all thought Hopkins had done enough to win.
To be honest I havn't watched it again sober as it was a pretty typical Hopkins snoozer so don't really care if he deserved to lose or not.
At the end of the day my impression was that Calzaghe came to fight and Hopkins came to steal the fight. He came mighty close and the knockdown was the most significant part of the fight by far but I don't he came forward once in the whole fight
Calzaghe at least was throwing punches and trying to win so I'm glad he got the decision.
As for Hopkins he can get together with old rival Winky and they can drown their sorrows at the bar and moan about all the robberies they have suffered.
Maybe Glen Johnson and Ike Quartey can join them and they can have a nice pity party.
Re: Now that's I've watch it sober - here's my Calz-Hop card - any comments?
I still don't remember Peter-Toney II. But that's another story.
I had it the opposite score for Hopkins, but like you said it was a very close fight.

Hopkins hasn't suffered half the robberies of Johnson, Quartey and Wright. Hopkins has arguably never lost decisively, well he's also arguably never been robbed. Johnson, Quartey and Wright definitely have. I thought Wright beat Hopkins.

Sober or not. My opinion of you don't change. You still a fukking idiot. Hopkins won the fight 115-112.

Hopkins ONLY won the fight 115-112 to someone that confused the white guy with the black guy. Fact.

No, Calzaghe won by that score. He was the white one.
Re: Now that's I've watch it sober - here's my Calz-Hop card - any comments?
Hopefully Calzaghe will have half a dozen more fights so that VD can continue to get it wrong then go into denial after every fight. :)

Not as much as you make us laugh at your reaction every time Calzaghe beats somebody you picked to beat him.

Didn't know you had a bad opinion of me. Don't forget, this isn't fanboy SEANIE. It's just funny to see, a normally intelligent and humorously abrasive poster turns into such a nuthugging fanboy when your man loses.
And considering how close fukkin 7 of the rounds were, seeing the fight 7-5 Cal instead of 7-5 Hopkins isn't such a big difference to call someone an idiot. You're being a nuthugging douche. If you admit it was only 115-112 Hopkins, that's all the evidence we need that it was probably a win for Calzaghe. I'll take your opinion seriously to you when you're talking about fighters who you don't want to blow.

thank the good lord you werent scoring holyfield-lewis II, you probably still would of had evander winning by 3-4 rounds.
At the time of the fight i like 95% of brits up at 3 in the morning were watching it with a complete undecisive view just hoping joe had done enough to win the fight, commentary teams on setanta and bbc radio both suggested hopkins was coming out on top and duke mckenzie even scored it 115-114 to hopkins at the end.
Ive since seen the fight sober twice over and both times ive had calzaghe 115-112
Only person in Las vegas who actually believed hopkins had won the fight was a female american judge - you couldnt make it up could you!!

I'll ignore the rest of your lame post. Your angry. It's understandable.
