Shane Mosely a Muslim? Confirmed False

Anthony Mundine implied that Shane Mosely was a Muslim. I never heard that before.

Here is his comment to Ray Wheatley of World of Boxing

"I'm a Muslim and I can't allow myself to lose to a Christian. My people are persecuted all over the world and they need inspirational figures like myself, Zinedine Zidane in soccer and also fellow fighters like Sugar Shane Mosley to look up to."

Charlie Gergan, who trained and managed Australian great Tony Mundine, the number one middleweight and a highly rated light heavyweight during the 1970s and 80s, is upset with comments WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine has recently made. "Anthony has made some silly statements regarding he can't lose to Sam Soliman because he is a Christian and not a Muslim," Gergan said. "That is stupidity. Anthony must realize that the three boxers who defeated him - Sven Ottke, Manny Siaca and Mikkel Kessler were not Muslim. He also said Shane Mosley is a Muslim. That is also wrong. Anthony is a good boxer but is not nearly as good as his father Tony. I am sure his father would have defeated him easily had they both met at their best." Gergan also trained and managed former WBO 140 pound champion Sammy Fuentes. "I lived in Redondo Beach, California, for many years and enjoyed my time in the USA training boxers including world champion Sammy Fuentes." Gergan currently trains several boxers in Sydney, Australia.

Yeah he is a Muslim. It does not change my opinion of him because he does not go around spewing his religion to everyone and making absurd statements . He keeps religion where it belongs, to himself.

I am surprised. Was he raised muslim?

What difference does it make if hes a Muslim or not? Nothing really.

I find that hard to believe.

I didnt know that either but it really doesnt matter at all and cant see why that would change anyones perception of him. That would be pretty ignorant imo. He chooses to keep his job as a fighter and religion seperate and I repect him for that. He doesnt talk about his religion to everybody like Mundine or other fighters. Hes a class act and that is how people should see him.

Anthony Mundine has decided to give up his WBA super middleweight belt after he defends against Sam Soliman on May 28. This means he will not have to face former conqueror Mikkel Kessler who is the mandatory contender for the championship. Mundine was ordered by the WBA to fight Kessler after Sam Soliman defense. Mundine stated he wanted to become a world champion in three weight divisions and will go after the world's best middleweights Arthur Abraham, Kelly Pavlik and Felix Sturm. "I want to become middleweight champion and then eventually the light heavyweight champion," Mundine said. "I can be a six-time world champion in three different weight divisions. I will definitely finish a great fighter. I won't put myself up there with [Muhammad] Ali and [Sugar] Ray Robinson, but I will be the best athlete ever overall. I didn't come to boxing till I was 25. In my previous sport, I was the best and I will be the best in boxing. I'll be the best combined athlete ever, a six-time world champ, because that's my favorite number. The [WBA] title means a lot but it wasn't a very viable decision [to fight Kessler]." It has already been announced that Kessler will face Dimitri Sartison for the vacant WBA title on June 21.

Mosley is one of the most stand up guys in the sport, inside and out of the ring.

I would ask who cares if he is Muslim, but apparently you do.
