The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
Here's an article that should give eveyone a lot to talk about, so I thought that I would post it.
Let the debating begin. :fighting0040mf3:
Okay, I edited this to state, so that there is no misunderstanding, I do not agree with this article at all, I am just posting it for discussion purposes only.
BOXING BUDDY: The FRAUD That Is Oscar De La Hoya | Bleacher Report
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
No offense to you Diane although I don't think you'll take any.
What a garbage article written by somebody who clearly has no idea what the hell he's talking about. First off, I'm almost 99% sure that Julio Cesar Chavez wasn't called the Baby Faced Assassin. I might be wrong on that but in all the Chavez fights I've watched I've never heard him called that.
I wanted to stop reading after the first fight he mentioned. Anybody who criticizes De La Hoya's early competition is a fool. I don't care if Jeff Mayweather was a strawweight before he fought De La Hoya, very few fighters have ever had the type of competition De La Hoya did in his first 20 or so fights. I think the precedent for that is Pete Rademacher and that didn't turn out so well for him. The fact is the best boxers of all time beat up on dishwashers and cab drivers to start their career. De La Hoya was fighting world champions that is something you can not possible discredit. Any attempt to do so is, for lack of a better word, retarded. That's the only way I can describe it.
So the first 6 should never have been published end of. Even if it's a blog it's disappointing to read that someone (himself) actually believes these things he's saying.
On to number 7, what more needs to be said? He's slamming Oscar's stellar 21-0 record calling all his opponents, a good portion being world champions, while praising JCC's record which was notoriously padded with bums. Not discounting JCC at all but that's the truth. I've never seen his fight with Miguel Angel Gonzalez though I doubt this chump has either. Why he put the win over parentheses is beyond me but again that's the intellect we're dealing with here.
Number 9, oh boy. Well first off if this hater had seen the fight then surely he would have latched on to the fact that it was an older Whitaker who gave De La Hoya a close fight and he would have hammered that down. But obviously he didn't see the fight, only the scorecards and the tale of the tape so he chose to focus on that. What more is there to say? Anyone who thinks Whitaker didn't belong in the ring with De La Hoya doesn't need to be blogging about a Toughman contest much less this fight.
The last one, the Camacho fight is a footnote it's not a legacy defining fight. The only reason it dragged to decision was because Camacho was about as dirty as one could be, constantly holding and even picking Oscar up and slamming him on his head.
Enough of that, hopefully no one actually agrees with that dope. It's one thing to criticize De La Hoya, it's another thing to criticize him COMPLETELY WRONG. I mean really how off the mark could one guy be? I think my blood pressure just rose a little.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
Poorly written and biass artice. This guy pick apart some of his fights from early in his career and fails to even mention the biggest fights of his career. top ten career inflating fights? ok pal. That was absolute garbage imo and im sure most would agree.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
One of the worst articles I ever read.

I don't agree with it, and I think it's a bunch of crap!! I think this guy is smoking a little too much. :wackomz4:
I just posted it to get some discussion going, which seems to be happening.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
These are all the best fighters ODLH fought.
Jorge Paez
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Julio Cesar Chavez x2
Ike Quartey
Ricardo Mayorga
Bernard Hopkins
Shane Mosley x2
Pernell Whitaker
Felix Sturm
John John Molina
Rafael Ruelas
Gernaro Hernandez
Jesse James Leija
Miguel Angel Gonzalez
Oba Carr
Felix Trinidad
Arturo Gatti
Fernando Vargas
Yori Boy Campas
Hector Camacho
Wilfredo Rivera
And all these fighters are mixture from 6 weight classes, how anyone can hate on ODLH's opposition is beyond me. He stepped up very quick in class, anybody who says different is just plain stupid or doesn't have a clue about ODLH. Also i would like to ask that same person who wrote that article who else could he have fought except for Winky Wright ?? a poorly written article and thats a plain and simple hater right there.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
What discussion exactly, were you hoping that this article would lead to? Whether the nutjob who wrote it is kidding or not?
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
Strictly with focus on Jeff Schimmel..........I think the fraud is himself that proports to be a Boxing Historian :dunce:. I would venture and dare to bet that this clown has not sat through many of those fights he rants against..........And Highlights on U-Tube don't count.
I was never a Delahoya fan and his Ivory Tower mentality.....but as a fighter he was extremely solid and Save for Bredahl fight,I thought that was a softy but Bredahl actually gave Oscar alot of different looks and speed before Oscar caught up to him.... at the time all were more than credible. This guy put's Way to much focus on size as opposed to calibur and ability of those mentioned.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
the only two nicknames i remember Chavez having "El Gran Campeon Mexicano" and "El Leon De Culiacan"
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
That article's a joke! This idiot seems to be basing Hoya's height as to why he won his fights. Wow! Maybe that's why LLewis won just about all of his fights.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
I cant believe you agree with that article Diane. I really lost all respect for you.....
...heh got you.;D Actually I agree 100% with this guy f de La Hoya(I didn't read the article, and I'm joking again suckers)
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
This article reeks of the type of shock jocky journalism that is so often precipitated by a writer's editor/publisher saying.."Your reader list is really starting to shrink and we need you to get people talking and reading!"
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
He lost me in the second paragraph with the SRL-Ashton Kucher analogy, I'm not a SRL fan but that is just foolish....I'm trying to read the whole article but the bias is soo thick you would think the guy walked in on de La Hoya boning his lady or something.....
1) What? His fifth fight dude cmon...really? Mayweather had 20 something pro fights already under his belt....horrible start...
2)Nitpicking under 15 fights this guy is busting nuts still. So what if that was a gimme, I guess by this guys standard guys got fight for the title by 10 fights...
I'v read over most of the rest and I'm done....so what ODLH was a big SF/lightweight geez this guy must really hate Celestino Caballero.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
It's just an absolutely pitiful premise that the article is based upon... DLH being "bigger" than many of his opponents. I mean for crying out loud, if they weren't big enough to fight him, why were they at that weight beforehand? He doesn't even really reference many opponents moving up in weight, simply discredits Oscar for being bigger.. The fact that they both cut down to make exactly the same weight I suppose counts for nothing:rolleyes: Fact is that if someone is fighting at a weight which is TO low for them to make comfortably, they will always suffer the consequences of being drained. Why not bring up how unfair it was for Chris Byrd to take on Shaun George last week, a guy who has fought 40 lbs below him for years. What a punk Chris Byrd is for taking on such a smaller, less experienced opponent. Oscar obviously had an excellent team behind him, and was a master of manipulating his bodyweight and rehydrating properly afterwards... That is a testament to his dedication, just as grueling training is, or just as fighting a hard 12 rounds is. The guy who wrote this article is a complete moron.
Re: The Fraud that is Oscar De La Hoya
What an asshole, couldn't even get to the end was such bullshit, hated giving his post the extra click, wonder what this guy is doing these days, probably judging fights.
