Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
I was doing some focus mitt work today with my dad (since i dont have a boxing gym anymore) . Well anyway my dad had to stop pretty early into it coz he said he had a sore hand. Anyway he took the focus mitt off and his hand was still sore, now he has a big bruise on his hand. I was wearing 16 oz gloves. Does this mean i have a bit of power?
Re: Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
His arms should fucking bruise before the hands (even though your not hitting his arms), unless you held an iron bolt in the glove or something.

I just hit the mitt with a normal 12 oz glove (i was wrong about the 16 oz, i checked to see what it was). I just hit the mitt with a hard right hand and he took the mitt off and later on a bruise has appeared.

you should also ask wether your dad has brittle hands... :p :lickish:
Re: Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
Punch him in the face and see what happens, only way to truly know O0

No i think Ill just take the fact that i bruised his hand with one right hand ;D . By the way his hands arent brittle.
Re: Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
prolly not a good idea to throw full punches into focus mitts...

Well i didnt mean to. I ducked under a left and then smashed the focus mitt with a right hand. I actually dont think i hit it that hard. Im starting get some confidence now coz ive always thought i was quick and that was it but now im starting show when i want to i hit pretty hard.
Re: Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
dude, the fastest way to check your punching power is to enter a competition.
i know i gotta have some mean power cause i have won over 2/3 of my fights through KO's in the first 2 rounds (although im amatuer so there are only 4)

Yeah mate i want to start going into competitions but im not fit enough. You see the most i can do on a heavybag is 10 mins. I do 10 mins flat out. I throw punches as quick and hard as i can. I also do some footwork while punching, i dont stop punching until the 10 mins is over. I could probably last 20 mins on the bag if didnt throw full out. I mainly focusing on using bag work to get me fit enough. I do some skipping but my resources around here arent very good. I also do some riding on the exercise bike ( i dont like running so i just do this for 30 mins). I think if i can get fit enough i would be a good competitor. I would probably end up in the light heavy division, im pretty quick with my hands and seem to have alright power.
Re: Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
sounds good snakey
i do rounds, i can go for 15 3 min rounds fighting as i would, first round getting dsitance, lost of straight shots
2nd round harder, once i know the opponents power and range
15 rounds is hard as hell

hee hee, tried the same thing as hatton, he uses bodybelt, i use heavybag.
i did infact puke afterwards, and during the 9th round.
i also took pro breaks of 1 min inbetween where i crammed as much water in as possible

So your doing something like 45 mins of punching, i did 30 mins once.......i didnt puke but nilly did. I had a really cold face cloth on the back of my neck and poured heaps of cold water over myself just to avoid being sick.......thats why i stick to doing 10 mins full out. As i said i could probably do 20 or 30 where im just picking my shots but i think i get more fitness throwing them full out. When i get fitter i might be able to do it full out for 20 mins.
Re: Does this mean i have reasonable punching power?
i dont know whether me and you have the same idea of full out.
i see full out as punching as hard as you can non stop.
continous hard ass punching, no breaks, so small stops, just 1 fist after the other as fast as you can throw it. if you can do that for 10 mins then your gonna be good in the amatures, cause there are only 4 2 min rounds.
HOWEVER, i dont know whether you have fought before, but nerves before a fight are what makes you tired. you are actually so nervous you feel like you have been doing 5 rounds on the bag. NO JOKE.
thats why you have to ovretrain. you train like your gonna fight for 3 rounds if your gonna fight for one
