What cover songs were better than the original versions?
Inspired by the "What Are You Listening to" thread. What cover songs do you think are better than the original?
Here are a few of mine:
Higher Ground - RHCP (originally Stevie Wonder)
Superstar - Sonic Youth (originally The Carpenters)
Planet Caravan - Pantera (Black Sabbath)
Where Did You Sleep Last Night/Any other cover from Unplugged - Nirvana (originally Ledbelly)
Cat Scratch Fever - Pantera (originally Ted Nugent)
Anything covered by the Beatles...
Under My Thumb - Social Distortion (originally the Rolling Stones)

Not better than the original,.. but it's still good stuff.

"Cinammon Girl", originally done by Neil Young, was covered by Type-O-Negative. Awesome job and better than the original. Will have to think of some more. Machine Head did a Sabbath cover of Hole in the Sky; awesome version.

Machine Head also did a brilliant cover of the Police's Message in a Bottle.
As good or better than the original; but anyone who knows me knows I am biased with Machine Head;D

Yeah, good stuff. That whole album was great; October Rust, best album they did IMO.

lol - I do like their take on it better. I'm not big on puppy dogs and butterflies and all things flowery fluffy.

The Hendrix and Dave Matthews Band versions of All Along the Watchtower are better than Bob Dylan's, to me.

There's a good song called "Heaven". I don't know the group who did the original (a man), but a woman did a remake of it and although I like both versions, hers is superior.
Also "Boys Of Summer".

For the love of God Clubber, tell me you're not talking about the Bryan Adams song which was covered by an American Idol contestant.
Just kidding man, I'd never seriously deride someone about the music they liked. Unless it was a lot worse than that.

That's funny because I find the John Lennon version to be one of the saddest, most heart-wrenching songs I have ever heard. I find the APC version cheesy, over the top, and poorly done. Just to be clear, I'm not trying to rip on you for liking it or anything, just giving my opinion.
