Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
I've watched Cotto's last 8 fights and one thing besides he being sharper is that Cotto seems to have faster handspeed, faster counterpunching, faster reflexes each time out. I am just wondering if anyone else is noticing this? I am wondering if it has to do with his newfound confidence in what he can do?

I watched some of Cotto's early fights, and he already had the good boxing skills, particularly a good defense. But somewhere along the way, he became enamoured of his punching power (and probably felt some "post-Tito" pressure), and got away from his boxing and into some heavy brawling. He paid a price with some close calls (Corley, Torres). Now I think he's matured into the complete package: power, speed, boxing ability, great body work, great jab, etc.

It's not just you, bro. I was the first one on the anti-Cotto bandwagon, but that's only because of a few of his lackluster performances at 140.
At 147............... He is every good as the hype surrounding him, and IMHO, better. He has looked damn near unbeatable since his first fight at 147 (Mayweather could make him look bad, though;)) and to me it's because Cotto has gotten so quick. We all knew that he had the power at 140, but he looked very drained and as a result, slow and hitable. At 147, he looks just as strong as he did at 140 but more importantly, he looks 5 times faster.
I'm just hoping that he walks through Margarito because that's what it's gonna take to bring Mayweather out of retirement. The one final big mega-fight that's out there. If this comes off............
Mayweather by TKO in the 12th.
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
He was elusive with his last fight. Judging from it, it's really hard for me to tell if he's getting faster or not. Didn't he KO/KD Gomez with a jab? That was impressive.
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?

If Cotto makes it past the first 3 rounds, it will be Cotto the rest of the night timming Tony the rest of the way to a UD.

It's just you.
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
Cotto has always had speed. I have been watching Cotto since his amateur days and he has always had great boxing skills. It's just that he went through a stage there, because of his youth, that he began to act in the ring like he believed the hype. Because of this, he became a head hunter and stopped thinking jab first. After his near ko losses to Corley and Torres, he got smarter and went back to breaking down his opponents with patience. Cotto will be out-smarting Margarito next month. The haters out there will criticize Miguel for not winning in devastating fashion, but he has learned that you can't approach every opponent in the same manner. The best thing about Cotto is that he knows how to adjust to any style and still look good, whether you are fast or slow or a pressure fighter. Many do not know how to do that.

Ha ha!! I wrote my post without reading yours first ( I had that habit in school-talking before listening). I basically said the same as you. That means we both know Cotto very well!
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
To me while time goes by , Cotto is getting more faster , now with the Training that he is getting with Phil Landman ( phisical trainer ) , workout on the sand in the beach , that will bring something astonishing in him to this fight.......................:D
And for sure Cotto will show to Margaro in first 5-6 round with the body punches and exchanges , who is the best , that is the Cottos Style...and what he really likes...............;D
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
He does look faster, not sure if it's that or maybe a different approach he's taking.

Agreed.
He's gettin' faster...but I'm worried that he's gettin' cockier too.
He took Mosley's shots flush...but I aint sure that he can take Margarito's.
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
Cotto looks a supreb boxer/puncher now, since his 140lb he has improved 3 fold.
Great fighter.
Re: Just me or is Cotto getting faster?
never been the fastest or most smothering of fighters
Thats what you have to admire dearly about cotto, the ability to completely dominate a world class opponent yet appear to look like he is in some kind of sparring session whereby he doesnt have to break sweat.
Judah punched himself out of their fight within 7, cotto probably threw twice as much heavy punches as zab yet appeared to look like he was just getting going by the time zab called it quits.
awe inspiring fighter that is already one of the great welterweights of all time in my eyes
