Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
All I can say is holy smokes. That would have been one hell of a fight.
Two supremely conditioned guys. About same height.
Power edge goes to Tito easily.
Speed Tito.
Determination is close and a toss up but Margo is the type of guy who goes into fight without any major advantages and comes out winning clear victories due to his workrate, stamina and unbelieavable chin.
Man I we were only a few years of from getting that too.
That fight wouldn't even need a ref.

Margarito is certanly deserving of praise. He beat a superior boxer and and undefeated elite champion in Cotto. He would certanly have his place in the 90s. But you gotta remember that this is not only the era of Tito, it was also an era of prime DLH who fought Tito to a virtual draw, and a prime Quartey who gave DLH all he could handle. All three of them were undefeated when they fought eachother. All three of them big welters also. Margarito would probably take decision losses to all three of them. Great fights non the less.
Re: Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
Not to diss Margarito because his CHIN is second to none, but we're in the trend that fighters are usually fighting in a weight class to small for them and Tony is one of them IMO. With his height and frame he is at least a 154 pounder.
Up against Tito, he will not be able to bully a fighter with Tito's size and power. Tito may not stop him but is enough for him to render respect for Tito's punches, unlike Cotto who punches upward(lesser force) Tito will be throwing power shots perpendicularly. Tony had a hard time with Daniel Santos, a man his size;)

Yeah. Trinidad would have gotten knocked out.

By that logic how did Tyson clear out guys the way he did? Tyson himself said being shorter was an asset.
Re: Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
I don't see anything that tito done in any of his fights to have beaten Magarito.
he didn't have the chin or skill to last 12 rounds with him.
I would asume he would of won most of the rounds he was standing up in, but the ending would of been trinidad stopped or sparked out.
there are a great deal of boxers who could of and would of beaten magarito over 12 rounds, my personal opinion is trinidad wasn't one of them.
Very very good boxer, but very much overrated in my opinion.
Re: Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
Tito had a bigger punch than Cotto, but he had something else over Cotto which would have served him well against the relentless Margarito..... stamina. Tito's stamina was exceptional. His cardiovascular recovery time between rounds was one of the best. He could go on and on and on and on. And while Margo's chin is truly awesome, at some point Tito's huge left hooks would take their toll.
Re: Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
As good as Margos chin is, Tito had fought a few guys like that in his day and their chin was never the same after fighting Tito.
Tito has one punch concussive power while Cotto has hard heavy thudding punches do are better suited for body punching.
If Santos was able to hurt Margo, Tito knocks him out for sure.
Margaritos lack of defence and speed would be the big difference.

Because aside from Tyson being unique in that sort of way, Iron Mike havent fought a BIG Heavyweight with a granite chin/power ala Foreman who'm I think could've destroyed Tyson.
Re: Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
If Santos could go to waR ith Margarito, so can Tito.

Daniel Santos, is a level below Tito IMO but look at what kind of trouble he had given Margo. Tito could've beaten Margo.

Dude, you have got to be kidding me. Not only are you suggesting Margarito would KO Tito you are making it out like it would be easy. We are talking about one of the top welters of all time.
Margarito has staked his claim to fame and done good. But let's not get too exited.. Let me see how to put this in a nice way... Tito would f*ck Margarito up.
Re: Can You Imagine If Trinidad And Margarito Were From Same Era?
Theres no doubt that Tito could win to Margaro , he have a great Stamina also , but i want to say something , at the way that Margaro went to fight Cotto , with real focus , determination , courage and optimism , IMO i dont think even Tito would KO Margaro , to KO Margaro you need to hit him with a Damn Tube to his chin , is great when you see a boxer with that kind of Focus ................i think that we have to give a real credit to Margaro in get that features , lot of boxers didnt have the same courage that Margaro showed on that fight ...................
