Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
I'm sure this will have been done before but in the late 90s and early 00s the welterweight division was even better than it is now IMO, and unfortunately 2 of it's shining stars never faced off for one reason or another. Anyway I'd like to know who you lot think would have won had Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad faced off. I really don't know who I'm going to vote for yet and I am probably going to give myself a day or two to decide!
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
I'd chose mOsley. he's too slick for trinidad.
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
Duno cuz both guys are great . Depends what weight . At welter I favour Shane . At light middle I tip Trinidad
Prime I think Mosley probably had too much speed and movement for Tito to handle .

Would he though ? i have never considered Shane Mosley a pure boxer or a slick boxer at all. More of a boxer/puncher when have you ever see him really use his boxing skills to out box someone over 12 rounds ?
Against ODLH he was too fast and had too much stamina, but i wouldn't say he really outboxed ODLH. Shane Mosley has always been more of a warrior than people realize.
People get the impression that because he is fast and throws lightning combinations. That he is actually pure boxer when thats not the case, saying that though could he beat Felix Trinidad ?
Im not so sure Shane Mosley doesn't move around the ring as well as ODLH, he isn't a defensive master like Winky Wright or Bernard Hopkins. And Felix Trinidad did deal with fast boxers like Oba Carr, David Reid, Hector Camacho, with no real trouble.
Felix Trinidad was always a slow starter so that would give Shane Mosley, a chance to steal the early rounds and possibly knock down Felix Trinidad. With a fast quick counter shot similar to the Oba Car knockdown, but then the problem would be once Felix Trinidad warms up and starts to land more and more and gets more and more aggressive.
Would Shane Mosley's legendary stamina be able to hold out ? and would he be able to withstand the punishment ? because Shane Mosley isn't the kind of fighter than can stick and move. He does take punches and im really not sure if he could last that long against Felix Trinidad's awesome power at Welterweight.
I think its too close to call it would depend on how many rounds Shane Mosley, wins in the early going. And how long it would take Felix Trinidad to get going. Plus it would be important for Shane Mosley to avoid exchanges which im not sure he would do.

I'd like to disagree with the phrase in bold. Mosley had proven already that he's faster and better than ODLH. Shane can move and counter punchers beautifully. He'd easily win a UD against Trinidad. I doubt if Trinidad can KO a prime Mosley.

He proved he is faster and arguably better with the 2nd fight being controversial. But move better ? i disagree ODLH moved around the ring brilliantly in the Felix Trinidad fight.
I have never seen Shane Mosley really move around the ring, especially the way ODLH did. Just because Shane Mosley beat ODLH, doesn't mean he would beat Felix Trinidad styles make fights. And Shane Mosley never met anyone like Felix Trinidad.
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
Shane was best at 135lbs but still beat prime Oscar better at 147.
Tough call, draw?

If ODLH can move brilliantly against Trinidad, what makes you so sure that a prime Mosley wouldn't be able to do so?
With that question, I rest my argument.

Theres a difference one ODLH is more of a pure boxer, and is a better technical fighter than Shane Mosley.
Two is that Shane Mosley has never ever really used movement, in any of his fights. Three is that Shane Mosley as i said above isn't a pure boxer nor is he a technical boxer. He is a boxer/puncher and likes to stay in punching range, plant his feet and exchange punches.
Like i said earlier Shane Mosley has more of a warrior mentality than ODLH, im not saying he can't beat Felix Trinidad. Shane Mosley can counter very well and he has the speed and stamina, to win a decision against Felix Trinidad.
But what ODLH did against Felix Trinidad, i can assure you now Bruce. That Shane Mosley would not do what ODLH did. And thats use excellent movement for 3 minutes of a round, and stick and move.
Shane Mosley would stay in punching range, looking to counter. And outspeed Felix Trinidad with flashy combinations.

That's what I mean. Shane would counter punch Trinidad all fight long and Trinidad won't be able to do anything about it. Trinidad may have power but Mosley would be able to survive Trinidad's shots. I only see a UD for Shane on this fight.
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
Tito, the power would intimidate Shane and put him off his game like Vernon did.
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted that fight to happen!
At 147 or even 154 Shane would start out trying to impose his will and might even get a flash knockdown of Tito but as the fight wore on Tito would use his height, distance, and power to halt Shane's attack and it would become like Lewis-Tyson with Shane throwing every now and then and slowly losing his head movement and Tito dominating the pace and inflicting the punishment.
Tito by UD
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
Prime for a Prime I give it to Shane...Too much speed....Shane had a good chin....As long as he avoided a slugfest with Tito he wuld cruise to a UD
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
I've finally made my decision and gone for Trinidad. Considering that he has only ever been beaten in the higher weight classes I think that at welterweight he would have had just a little bit too much for Shane.
Re: Who would have won Mosley v Trinidad?
Shane by close UD. He has more skills and would outpoint Felix, not to the extent Winky did but he would have done enough to win IMO.
It's a shame it never happened
