Calzaghe: No rematch for Hopkins!

Unbeaten light heavyweight star Joe Calzaghe has ruled out a rematch with Bernard Hopkins, who upset Kelly Pavlik over the weekend. "Jones Jr will the last fight for me, definitely - that's it, me done," Calzaghe told the BBC. "Screw Hopkins, I'm not fighting again for any amount of money, I've been doing this for too long." He added, "Hopkins beating Pavlik is great for me because people will stop banging on about me fighting Pavlik.....I can retire with a clear conscience knowing that I've beaten everyone who's worth beating."

I wholeheartedly respect his decision. We as fans need to realize we need these guys to match up- it comes a point when no matter who's out there enough is enough. Joe knows what's going on with his body- I'd rather him cut short than fight too long.

I would not of minded a second fight between hop and joe.

I enjoyed the first fight and it was close so a second fight happening wouldn't be a bad idea.

Calzaghe feels he won the last fight, and he isnt getting any younger himself. I understand where he's coming from when he says that. Not that Im nearly 37.

I wouldnt mind seeing a rematch myself, because I think Calzaghe can do a better job than he did.

I would also like to see Hopkins vs Calzaghe 2 but if it isn't to be it isn't to be anyway with a bit of look Jones will beat Calzaghe and we will get Hopkins vs Jones 2.

Respect that he wants to go out at the top.But a rematch with Hopkins at the millenium stadium to end his career sounds good to me + it would be a good gesture to the fans to have your last fight at home.

True ;) i want to see this as Hopkins is the closest to beat him since Robin Reid i think it would do a lot for his legacy if he remtched Hopkins and beat him clear like a lot of top fighters who have a close fight then rematch them to prove they can do better.

Calzaghe has never been big on rematches unless he was forced to.He had to go to Germany to fight Mario Viet that was only so he could keep his title.

My guess? Jones wouldn't fight Hopkins. His logic? "I beat Calzaghe who beat Hopkins who beat Tarver who beat Johnson" That avenges all my losses in one go, and proves that I am the greatest of all time". :rolleyes:

Calzaghe is the guy who is least likely to inflict physical damage. If he loses to Calzaghe, there will be an excuse. "I'm tired" probably.

Calzaghe had adapted to Hopkins he is like the Borg man real ring and style smart.

If Hopkins offered to fight him in Cardiff i dont think Joe would turn that down.

I dont mind Calzaghe retiring,then again i would'nt mind him fighting Hopkins again.Calzaghe has proven to all of the doubters out there and he's got nothing to prove after he beats Jones!!!Im looking forward to Calzaghe's new dvd soon.Its due out in November,it should be good!

Hopkins doesnt need Calzaghe anyway cuz alot of people think he won that fight

If the judges gave him the close decisions to Taylor and Joe . Im not saying the fights would be any different just different judges on a different night then that makes Hopkins' resume unrivalled. What an amazing career . Hes been fighting and beating undefeated p4p fighters.

Calzaghe won't fight Hopkins again because it would be a massive risk of losing that unbeaten record he knows he got a gift.

If joe looses to roy will anyone care about this rematch then ?? They fought joe won time to move on. If b-hop thinks he got ripped he needs to look in the mirrior and bitch to that guy about it. The same way he feels joe didn't do enough to win he could've done much more to convince the judges that there was a clear winner. I'm in the middle of the fence on this fight, and would say the same to either guy, it doesn't matter who we think won, only who the judges think won, best bet is to not leave so much room for interpretation. This weekend was a good example is there anyone out there that thought pavlik may have won this fight ?? There was no rematch clause joe has the right to say no. I think roy wins and shuts up all this discussion anyways.....but then again i am on a two fight prediction skid right now so that might be good news for joe.
