I was just wondering, what would PBF have to do to cement his legecy in everyones eyes?
I think he may come back and have another four fights... Now if he came back and defeated Margarito, Cotto and say then Berto at WW, and then moved up to LM and defeated Paul Williams surly then nobody could doubt what he has done in his career..
Where would them four wins leave him in an alltime P4P list???? thoughts??
There'd be someone else around at the time who he would need to step in with. I'm sure of that.
At this point I'd take 3 of those guys you mentioned. He may struggle with Cotto, he may struggle against Margarito's sheer will and he may struggle against Paul Williams reach and work rate. So those 3 would elevate him even further in my book.
He's taken on loads of challenges throughout his career but don't think he quite made that final challenge that all boxing fans could respect. I.E. Cotto or Margarito. He just needed that 1 last fight in my humble opinion to win over hardcore boxing fans as well as the casuals.
If mayweather fought world hunger and won it wouldn't make any difference. He can do the same thing joe calzaghe can do at this point. Nothing. Some like him some don't. It will always be that way. Floyd would be a fool to get back in the ring although i think he will. No one wants to see floyd fight they only watch to see him loose, the last thing i'd do is play the fight him..no no wait fight him, ok you beat him but i bet you can't beat this guy etc.....
Agreed Mar, there are always some that won't be pleased whatever he does. I still can't help feeling that he needed that one last challenge to silence all the hardcore fans who don't rate him. One more fight where it was the best vs the best..I just think he missed that perfect oppurtunity with Cotto.Quote:

Mayeather love or hate him the man is a class act.His defence is 1 of the best in boxing after 39 fights no one knows if he has a good chin cause he very rarely gets hit on it,and his combinations are lighting fast when he decides to let his hands go.

what floyd is missing a real war in his fight record, but prob not got that cos he is so good.
If he stays retired he will still of been one of the greatest of past couple of decades
You're right, he'll NEVER silence the haters. If he waits for one of the guys to REALLY stand out, then take him on that would definitely ADD to his great legacy. If Marg can serve a real beatdown on Shane, the call from the fans might be big enough, since Shane is considered (very wrongly) similar to Floyd. I love Shane, but he's finished, if he's tired against Cotto he's in for a real treat with Marg, his offence has always been his defence and he just won't be able to keep it up at his age.Quote:

At 135 he fought Castillo twice,Sosa and N'dou...he should have had a fight with Cassamayor the man people were looking at as the divisions bad boy
At 140 he fought Corley, Gatti, and Brusles...The Corley win was his best...Brussles was not revered much and we all knew Gatti was almost done (Not that PBF would not have beaten him at any time)...He should have fought Cotto or Tszyu
At 147 PBF fought Judah who was in a mental tirade and had lost to Spinks and Baldomir...Sharmba Mitchell had been fighting journeymen so little respect was earned there....He could have stuck around for Margarito...Beaten Cintron who was highly thought of then...Enticed a Mosley bout....
For as good as PBF is at times it seemed like he was more interested in looking good on paper rather then in the ring with a legit dangerous opponent that makes fans remember you

But they will remember the wins over PBF, Castillo, Corrales....Why? because they are men with legacy's of their own
Unlike guys like Calzaghe PBF choose who he fought and did not there were no promoters dictating his bouts...Plus as mentioned before he necer had a real signiture bout...
He will be remembered for his skills but not for his determinartion to fight the best
