My Roy/Joe prediction.

When the fight was made there was heavy talk about Joe fighting Pavlik after his victory. This was a big fight building up and I just knew that Roy couldn't possibly win a close decision - it would hurt a big event for boxing. Now that Kelly is out of the equation and Joe is saying the gloves will be hung after this bout; there will be no gift decisions imo.

So now I ask: Even at this stage of Jones' career, does Joe, without the possibility of a gift for a super-fight, really outbox Roy Jones Jr.? Roy seems to be interested in a big Hopkins fight now. Do the judges favor Roy over Joe now that something big for boxing follows a Jones win, where as nothing at all follows a Calzaghe win?

This is just my view on the politics of boxing which we all know can be very crooked - this is something I don't think we've thought about enough. I'd like to know what you guys think on this? Is it something to worry about or no?

Now.. to the actual fight.
I personally don't see how Roy LOSES this fight. But I said the same thing about Bernard, lol. I think what Bernard did though, was show that Joe can very easily be out boxed.. but you need to mount some kind of offense as well. If roy fights a similar fight to the one Bernard fought but with a higher punch output, he wins handily IMO.

And this is what I predict. I can't see Joe contending with Roy even today and obviously I can be very very wrong. I don't see joe knocking him out.. and I don't see Roy being an idiot and taking any rounds off. If Joe were to win, it would be via Split Decision, and I don't think he can win a Split Decision at the brink of Jones/Hopkins 2.

I see the fight going as follows.
First few rounds are very slow. Both men look respectful, Joe is trying to mount a rhythm and get comfortable. Joe begins to loosen up from round 4 on up and keeps Roy shelled on the ropes for the majority of the fight. Joe has alot of holes in his defense when flurrying and roy will take advantage of these, possibly scoring a KD for a few more pts in one of the mid rounds and winning a UD.

I see Roy making Joe pay for every sloppy flurry he throws and eventually it makes Joe very respectful. It may slow down his punch output infact, and allow Roy to work a little more from the center of the ring. Roy wins on counter punches Alone in this fight IMO. When on the ropes, he works his way back into the center and outboxes joe there. That's how i see the fight everytime I picture it >.<

Well I hope your right but if Roy comes in not in some type of top form he will eventually either go back into the ropes and try to survive or if he realizes it earlier may go all out and try to finish it in which case Joe only has to bide his time and make Roy come forwards and keep him moving.
The fight will eventually go the other way if this occurs.

Roy has never been the type of fighter to stand toe to toe with anybody so I think its safe to say he is not going to out fight Joe.

At this stage of his life he does not have the legs or sharpness to pick Joe off with big shots all fight long.He fights for less than a minute a round.


I think it will be a good fight with Joe being to busy for Roy and with Jones going backwards for most of the fight landing the odd good shot now and then.

Calzaghe to win on point.

Jones way well win the first 3 or 4 rounds imo, but I think at this stage of his career he won't be able to keep pace for 36 mins and JC will probably win on work rate. Hope it's a great fight.

Well I dont think I would call it funny but I know what you mean.


When Joe went down against Hopkins the whole of Wales held its breath in shock.LOL

A lot depends on the judges, and whether they favor effective aggression over winging punches. After watching the Calzaghe - Hopkins fight, and others, I get the impresion that judges often have a hard time telling whether or not punches make effective contact.

Roy's only chance is to take chances, let it all hang out, and hurt Joe bad with his straight right early. That punch is going to be there for him, just like it was for Hopkins, but he's going to need to stun him with the right and clean it up with the hook. Hopkins didn't really throw the cleanup hook - he pot-shotted in and out with the right. Jones is going to need to stay in the pocket long enough to get off 2 or 3 punch combos before he moves. It's his only shot, because that's the only way he's going to damage Calzaghe.

I think its safe to say its going twelve, Roy hasnt stopped anyone in six years, and Calzaghe well i still dont think he is a light heavyweight, i think Roy is to long in the tooth Calzaghe will win this comfortably in 12.

I think its one of those where anything could happen.
