Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
I see Trainer Monkey say this and a few other members, im honestly shocked people say this. I rewatched this a couple of days ago just incase i missed something but i didn't.
116-112 or 117-111 in favor of RJJ, RJJ did give a few rounds away late on. But overall i thought he controlled Bernard Hopkins without much trouble ?

Have you got a link for the fight ICE? I will have another look aint watched it for years
Re: Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
Well that's just silly.
I saw an interview the other day where Hopkins himself said Roy beat him (he don't think Taylor or Calzaghe did).
Re: Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
I saw this fight once and it was around 2005, i thought Jones won pretty comfortably, even Nard himself says he lost that fight.
Re: Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
Not only did he win he did it with one handed because he injured his hand during the fight
Re: Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
reread my other post bro on the other read.
I personally think after a re watch the fight actually gets closer as it goes. I don't have roy near as effective as i thought he was after snoring through it the first time (5 dollars to whoever stayed awake, lol)
But again, I think Bernards admittance to losing the fight has alot to do with his inability to get comfortable. A lot of times fighters won't dispute a decision that isn't in their favor if they were never comfortable - because it "feels" like a loss.
Not even sure why you made a thread for this lol. A few peoples oppinions on another viewing of a fight shouldn't warrant a discussion imo.

I was at that fight. RFK stadium Washington, D.C. I didn't have great seats, and never watched the tape. I did have binoculars. Roy was barely hit the whole fight. He didn't land much on Hopkins either. It was a boring fight, but Roy deserved the verdict. He outhustled Hopkins. He was faster and through more punches.

Shit, you were there?
What was that like?

Were was that fight held?
Re: Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
It wasn't a great card because none of the fights ended up being exciting. It was promoted by Rock Newman as a vehicle for his fighter Riddick Bowe, who lived in Ft. Washington, MD (near DC) to have an easy title defense. The stadium was 3/4 empty - maybe 10,000 fans in a 55,000 stadium. The fights I remember were Sharmba Mitchell KO1 Kenny Baysmore, Jones v. Hopkins and Bowe KO 2 Jesse Ferguson. I left feeling I didn't get my $100 worth. At the time, neither Jones or Hopkins had done that much in their pro careers. Jones was the heavy favorite as he had the olympic background and was much more hyped at the time than Hopkins. Believe it or not, Hopkins was, at that time, known as a big puncher, not as the crafty boxer he became known as being.
Re: Does Anyone Think Bernard Hopkins Beat RJJ ?
It wasn't a close fight at alll, the early rounds Roy won because Bernard couldn't get off and Roy would land one or two good combinations and he was winning their battle of the jab.
In the middle rounds Roy was losening up and landing combinations, countering, he seemed to have difficulties with Bernard's style but he comfortably won those rounds.
I had Hopkins only winning the round where he landed two solid right hands in a row before the last 2 or 3 rounds so I had Roy up solidly 117-111 or 116-112.. I think he took the last two rounds off, and making weight was difficult for him.

How could you fall asleep through it, it was a great tactical fight, they were both thinking so much in there it was amazing to see them go up against eachother. I have never seen to fighters as thoughful as these two, and it was evident in how they fought eachother.

Ask around.. You will be very lucky to find anyone who didnt have the urge to fall asleep during this fight. Everyone admits it was boring for a reason. It's one thing to be technical, it's another to stare at each other.
