Re: Pacquiao/De La Hoya 24/7
I still say Calzaghe-Jones was a way bigger mismatch, as Pacquiao fan moreso than an Oscar fan, I take solace in the fact that Oscar like Roy JOnes and like Bernard Hopkins has taken something off most of his punches to retain his handspeed as best as possible. I think he will have troubles defensively against Pacquaio, if he uses better footwork maybe he won't, but Manny is really underappreciated for his ability to fight off the back foot, I mean he did it so well against David Diaz, people forget the first knockdown of Morales was a counter punch of the ropes, and the knockdown of Marquez was a beautiful counter punch. I think Oscar can handle Pacquiao's power, but the question concerning Oscar for me is similar to Roy JOnes Jr., will he be able to retaliate to those punches? He is far fresher than Jones, and his output is way higher then Roy, I think he likely wins this, but it isn't the 95/5 odds against him I thought was the case with Jones-Calzaghe, I think its more 70/30 or 65/35

A couple thoughts:
-De La Hoya looks to be in great shape and I think going back to Big Bear was a great idea for him.
-I think all the help Oscar is hiring (Berstain, Dundee, Valero, and Zaragoza) is to make it seem like fighting Pacquiao will be such a monumental task. I still think De La Hoya has a huge advantage here and all this hype is to make people forget how big of a mismatch this is.
-Through the camerawork and the training portions they showed in the show, Manny still has all the speed that he's been known for. They also showed someone banging him with a wodden stick to the ribs and arms and Pac cringing and grunting. That looked like it hurt.
-Finally and most importantly, I think this whole thing should be called De La Hoya/Roach 24/7. The beef is between those two and the trash talk is just back and forth between Oscar and Freddie. Manny is just caught in between.
Other than that, HBO does a great job with this show. It really adds on to the hype and is one of the most well-made documentaries out there.
Yeah, the 24/7 show is really well done by HBO. I still remember watching the ODLH/Floyd 24/7s and thinking "man, this crap is cool." The Hatton/Floyd 24/7 was really good too. You're completely correct on all these people coming to ODLH's camp. It's all a publicity stunt to make Manny seem like he's a greater risk than he really is. What some people don't remember is that before the ODLH/Floyd fight, a lot of boxing people were criticizing that fight because people were saying that Floyd wasn't a real welterweight and that ODLH was too big for him at 154. By the end of 24/7, it all of a sudden it was an even fight. That's what good promotion and hype does. But this time, it's gonna be a hard sell IMO. There's a difference between ODLH fighting Floyd and Pac. Floyd was a smaller man but his defensive talent, quickness, and arm length made up for his lack of natural size. Manny is even smaller than Floyd with a MUCH shorter reach, and Manny's talent comes from his sheer determination. Manny has willed his way into the #1 P4P spot by being able to brutally outlast and will himself to most of his victories. He's not a "boxing prodigy talent P4P" like say a RJJ, Floyd, B-Hop, or even a JoeCal is. Let's not forget this is a guy who was getting caught with clean, flush left hooks from JMM six months ago. If ODLH lands those same punches, Manny might not be able to take those shots. I won't let 24/7 fool me again. But I will stop going on and on about this fight, so I don't ruin it for the people who will be following it.
Re: Pacquiao/De La Hoya 24/7
I saw this vid in youtube and I think its better than the 24/7 stuff only thing is it was pretty much all pacquiao in here...but there was a part where it showed that nasty left hook of Oscar that pac should find a way to hide from..but nevertheless it was a great vid.i'd say it was breathaking..I hope I didn't sound gay at all if I described it that way,,to me it was a bad ass vid :cool:

Re: Pacquiao/De La Hoya 24/7
Roach's Parkinsons is starting to look really advanced, sad to see that.
Re: Pacquiao/De La Hoya 24/7
This is out of context... Does anyone know a site where i can place a bet on this fight? Im sure Oscar will be favorite but i doubt by much since alot of the polls show many people thinking Pac will win. I still won't mind to put 1 to 10 as im so sure Oscar will win...

Ya, I was wondering if anyone else noticed this. During one of the interviews, Roach seemed to be shaking really bad. More than I've ever noticed before.

ODLH = -250 = 2/5
PAC = +225 = 9/4
Are the generally accepted odds right now, so ODLH pays out $0.40 to the dollar. Can't help you with where to bet though, maybe try some local sports bars.

What does Calzaghe Vs Jones have to do with this fight, why are you comparing something else to this. It does not take away that the size differential is insane, a complete mismatch. And just because Pac landed good counter punches against smaller opposition does not mean that it will effect the likes of Oscar De La Hoya
Re: Pacquiao/De La Hoya 24/7
I had to watch a blurry feed online since I do not have HBO now.
OverAll I liked this 24/7 better then the jones vs calzaghe one. The fighters seem hungrier and the camera work was way better
Pacman is intriguing to me cause of his appeal and ferocious braveheart style.
Should be a good fight while it lasts.
this is the blurry feed I watched oh well better then nothing.
Oscar/Manny 24/7 episode one(video)

Several months back, even an idea of a Hatton fight was considered a bad one and only few whom some guys here considered as 'crazy fanatics' (ok, I wasn't one of them, though I don't mind being called one)even entertained the idea of an Oscar fight. But now, they have been bombarding us with all kinds of opinions and all of a sudden, 'there Is a fight!' or so it seems. Now as the fightnight gets near, even the opinions of the usual boxing X-perts here at the saddos seem to even out more and more. And me, I'm becoming confused myself. So Bookkeeper, or anyone else, tell me straight, is there a fight indeed? or is it just a well-disguised mismatch re-packaged by the HBO and the media into a real-deal fight, just like those junk mortgage bonds repackaged into a nice investment deal that were supposed to earn zillions of dollars but ended up in the dumps?
...and in the meantime...
...pac by ko with nice belly shot.;D

Pacfan you have to realize that we are all boxing fans, so no matter what kind of mismatch it is we will try to find an excuse of watching the fight. Couple weeks back when Joe and RJJ were fighting people were saying that Roy finally lost the weight and packed on the real muscle and that he was back to were he used to be (hyping the fight) then after the fight they were talking about how washed up he is and that he should retire. Don't get me wrong fighting Oscar is like winning the lottery, it's everyone's biggest payday so everyone wants that fight ( I don't blame Pac), but Pac just moved up to 135 for one fight and he is going against a guy who had a short stint at 160. Oscar should be about 10-15 pounds heavier on fightnight ( Maybe more)

Ya, Bookkeeper, you're right about that. You know me pretty well, I was just trying to stir up a little 'storm' out there (LOL). Looks like a mismatch from every angle. I think only miracle can save our boy here. But they say 'miracles do happen.' Just hope he doesn't get hurt. I can't believe the authorities sanctioned this fight. But well, like Mr. Roach, maybe they know what we don't.

2 days ago, there were reports that Hoya weighs 145 lbs. already (you saw a thin frail looking Hoya during his media day) and PAC is reported at 152/151 lbs. who looked a naturally muscled welterweight boxer during his media day...
they will both weigh-in at 147 lbs. ...

Go to this blog:
Manny Pacman Pacquiao and Boxing Photos on the Net
There's a list of betting lines on the right side. Click that and I think you can place a bet there.
Oscar at -250 and PAC at +185.
