How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
This is not a "how great a fighter do you think Ricardo Lopez is" thread. I think he was a great fighter, a real pleasure to watch.
More like just how good do you think his opposition was, how many quality wins did he have. Some of the guys he fought, unless you saw them and just said ok I think that guy is a pretty good fighter then its hard to tell because they might not have fought any other top level guys.
Obviously Alvarez was a very good fighter, same for Sorjaturong, then there are some other guys Grigsby, Charoen, Sanchez, Petelo, etc. who I don't think were great fighters but were solid enough. Not really including Sor Vorapin since he was getting up there a bit.
I'm sure I'm missing some, I've seen 13 or 14 Lopez fights so there's probably somebody I missed.
Its a shame he didn't get too fight more truly elite guys, wasn't he scheduled to face Carbajal at one point? I'm not blaming him for not moving up, but it would have been nice.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
I really don't know to be honest im like you i have seen about 14 fights of his, and i know some knowledge about his opposition. But overall im quite clueless on about 60 percent of his title challengers. I do think he should of moved up at one point though, and challenged Michael Carbajal, Humberto Gonzalez.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
I feel that his resume is limited given the quality of opposition he faced.
However, similarly to Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins, it's not who he fought, it is the nature of those victories that make him noteworthy.

Unless I'm just totally losing it Humberto was trained by Nacho Beristain as well and they may well have been friends, I've never heard of a rumored fight between them.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
Boxing wise he was flawless, did not really have a weakness and his record speaks for itself.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
He was a perfect fighter, one of the best ever. He fought the best opposition he could there just werent a lot of great fighters in his weight, though he did beat a lot of very good fighters. Hes the best Mexican fighter of all time imo in terms of skill one of the best of anyone.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
Lopez cleaned out his division. I rank him 17th all time in greatest fighters ever. Anybody that disagrees is disagreeing just to disagree. I doubt they seen more than 2 of his fights.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
The thing with Lopez is he was such a good fighter that I rate him higher than I would other people who had similar levels of opposition. Its not that he fought a parade of bums, but he doesn't have the opposition of SRL, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, PBF, Morales, Barrera, Pac, even Oscar, and it goes on.
Would have liked to have seen a Carbajal fight.

I have no idea how long ago it was that I did this thread, just noticed it at the bottom of the screen

I would disagree, his resume is not among the very elite just in terms of pure opposition but he is a first ballot hall of famer clearly IMO.

Wow, had no idea this was on youtube

Also check out Sorjaturong's fight with Chiquita Gonzalez if you haven't seen it.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
Such nice footwork and balance
Kind of a crappy feed though.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
Lopez was pure class and quality. Two major strikes against him IMO....he was at Strawweight or 'minimumweight' (how insulting is that) :-X and had little 'mainstream' appeal, name recognition,no english....should not be held against him.He was a puncher but at the same time a styalist and pin point accurate hitter....I also dont think King did him any favors at times by sticking him on undercards as an after thought.Would have loved a jump up to meet Carbajal...who in contrast had the Olympics,ESPN up bringing and big push.Lopez is a Great, period!!His comp was there,he just swept them up...Nene,Alvarez 1,2 (all time brutal scrap),Grigsby,Ohashi,Sorjaturong,Petelo......Now Porpaoin, that would have been nice ;D
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
Youtube doesn't do Lopez justice
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
Just depends, obviously the later you go in his career the better, there's a good Petelo feed, the Ohashi fight isn't that great.
Re: How good do you think Ricardo Lopez' resume is?
I've always wanted to see his 2nd fight with Rosendo Alvarez, but i've looked all over and so far nothing. I've been looking for atleast over a year, i've heard such much about it i would love to see it.
