Sergiy Dzinziruk calls out Paul Williams??!
Insane or smart move? At least someone is calling out the "most feared fighter on the planet." Dzinziruk could remain boxing in Germany in semi-obscurity, but instead he calls out the best of his weight class. Credit due in a way.

Re: Sergiy Dzinziruk calls out Paul Williams??!
Dzinziruk is a very good fighter and a tough one. I think he could deal with Williams pressure and he has the skill and style to beat him. If he fought him and won, he would be propelled to stardom. He has still gone under the radar even with his win over Julio, another punching machine. Smart move on his part imo. Ill tell you this right now, if they fight ill pick Sergiy to beat him.
Re: Sergiy Dzinziruk calls out Paul Williams??!
this is a good fight for both of them but if Sergi wants it then im sure Paul wont mind a little ass kicking.
Re: Sergiy Dzinziruk calls out Paul Williams??!
Has anyone read that Paul has any fights planned? The way Sergei talked, it seemed Paul was lining up other fights. I'd read about a potential fight vs. Winky in March but nothing since.

Rafael mentioned in his chat that the Winky fight was likely for April (not March because Williams has to recover from the bad cut he had against Phillips). Not a done deal yet, however.
I doubt the Sergei fight comes off because it is not a big money fight and Segei's slick style makes it a risky fight, too. Plus, Sergei is a virtual unknown in the U.S. and it might be hard to find a TV outlet for the fight.

Coming from an american perspective, I hear you, but if you held the fight in Germany the fight would be big and I imagine big money. Paul is always clamoring that no one will fight him - well, go take the strap from Dzinziruk in Germany. Moreover, it would clarify who holds the WBO belt because Dzinsiruk holds the formal WBO belt and Williams holds the interim WBO (whatever that means).

Strong words right there, buddy.
Admittedly, I was surprised Sergiy beat Julio and surprised there wasn't more noise made about it. But, Paul Williams is a step up.

At 6' tall hes a big light middleweight and he is strong, southpaw stance, more akward than most European fighters and hes got considerable skills. Plus hes undefeated, so he has that mentality. Hes pretty much the opposite of Verno Phillips and he wont look so small next to Williams. Williams is very good but he can be beaten and this guy has the style to do it. He wont ko Paul but he would a close decision imo.

The big money is made on U.S. TV bouts. That's one reason why a fight like Manny and Hatton will happen in Vegas instead of England. They could draw 60,000 to Wembley probably versus only, say, 10,000-12,000 in Vegas, but the Casinos bring in more money overall and the production costs are less for TV outlets. Plus, Sergei is not really that big of a draw even in boxing crazy Germany. I believe I read only 3,000 were present at his fight with Julio. It's also not just about the money even if Sergei's promoter's could come up with a decent sum of money. It is also about building Williams' exposure on TV against the biggest names possible. I doubt HBO or Showtime would have much interest given Sergei's obscurity in the U.S (also remember neither were interested in him fighting Julio, even though they wanted Julio for the Martinez bout). And I seriously doubt Gossen will let Williams take a fight without HBO or Showtime onboard, especially if it is overseas. A fight with Winky on HBO will be more money against a name opponent. That makes more sense business wise and in terms of upgrading Williams' profile for bigger fights down the road. I'm not saying I would not personally be interested in that fight, but it probably won't happen for business reasons.

Thanks Clubber. Yeah I'd heard March 14th @ one time but now I think Dawson/Tarver fight on that date so Paul fighting then too didn't make sense.

I would to. I can see Dzinziruk following Quintana's blueprint to beat Williams. He's bigger, stronger, quicker and has a better chin than Quintana. I can see him beating Williams.
Re: Sergiy Dzinziruk calls out Paul Williams??!
you got to Dzinziruk his dues good champion reign and also defeated daniel santos
but i chose williams to win offense juggernaut
Re: Sergiy Dzinziruk calls out Paul Williams??!
Really disappointed here if Williams doesn't accept the challenge.
He's talked so much and has said he was looking for an opponent.
Unless he gets Winky in there then I see the point for not taking on Sergiy. But IMO anything less then Winky is pointless...

Williams and his team have to do what is smart from a business perspective. If they can get HBO or Showtime on board and get Sergei to come to the US, then, yes, the fight should happen if he can't get Winky (although it sounds like that fight will happen). But if HBO or Showtime don't want the fight and/or Sergei refuses to leave Germany, then the Williams team would be foolish from a business perspective to take the fight. Too dangerous an opponent and not enough reward. HBO did not want Julio-Sergei because of the production costs to show the fight in Germany, so I doubt they pick the fight up unless Sergei comes to the US.
