Re: You favourite song video's!!!
Some of the Tool video clips were great at 2am stoned watching the music channel back in my Teen days..
One of my favourites, and someone can look this up in youtube for me, is "One" by Metallica...
Really freaky, tells the story of a soldier losing his arms and legs and being kept alive on a machine as just a torso, then signalling via morse code for the nurse to kill him... Can't recall if she does, but it's easily one of the most powerful video clips i've seen.. I think one of Metallica's first actual produced video clips.. Great stuff...

That's pretty much the plot in a nutshell of an old novel, and movie, Johnny Got his Gun. I won't watch the movie, I'm afraid it would be too depressing. :-\ Movie is available on youtube.

The actual video music clip looks like it's taken bits from a Movie, so that might be it.. If it is, i'd probably skip the movie also as the just the parts in the music video are eerie and depressing enough... But it was one of my favourite songs for years even before I saw the video for it, and it's just powerful... I'm going to dig it up now on Youtube and post below..
Awesome found it!!
It is the actual song, but it has some sound bites added in to go with the story of it and the video so you get the whole thing without having to know or listen specifically to the lyrics..
Re: You favourite song video's!!!
Damn I forgot to add the video
YouTube - One - Metallica
Some of the parts give me chills..
EDIT :
Huh yeah I just read the Wiki page and it sounded exactly like what the video clip is about, then this was at the bottom anyway..
References in popular culture
Clips of the 1971 film version were used in the music video for the Metallica song "One". Instead of enduring a long and arduous negotiation for rights to the film, Metallica decided to buy the movie outright, in order to use it in their video.
then this is taken from the Wiki page for the actual song..
Concept
The song's theme is based on Dalton Trumbo's 1939 novel Johnny Got His Gun. It is based on the story of a soldier whose body was severely damaged after he was hit by a German artillery shell during World War I. His arms, legs, eyes, mouth and ears were gone and he could not see, speak, smell, or hear; but his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body.

Re: You favourite song video's!!!
Hey Diz, thanks for the update on the Johnny got his gun story. Obviously Metallica was moved by it. I'll have to give the song a good listen one of these days.
And the whole concept of the soldier wanting to commit suicide provided me with an idea for morphing a fave music video thread into a debate about right to die thread. nah...
Re: You favourite song video's!!!
This video shits on all the videos... ever!!
Anytime I talk best videos this is the 1st one that comes to mind.

The film is a must see, because it makes you think alot, but it is depressing as hell
Re: You favourite song video's!!!
Before "Johnny Got His Gun" was "Johnny Get Your Gun" which as I understand was a patriotic sort of tune meant to encourage young men to enlist for WWI. "Johnny Got His Gun" was a response, as in "you see what can happen?"
Re: You favourite song video's!!!
About 15 years ago I ran up a huge phone bill for my then girlfriend ordering Godess, lets get sexual on the box. Shit song, great vid. Never been able to find it though.
If I did it would probably be quite tame on second viewing.
