Merchant Contract renewed until 2011. NO!

I like Larry Merchant as a person but not very much as an announcer. I like him more as an interviewer. With that being said, his contract was renewed by HBO for another 2 years.

What else do I have against Larry Merchant? For one, he is slow to talk, he does not provide any real good sound bytes during an actual fight but neither does Emmanuel Steward whom I hate as an HBO announcer. Emmanuel reminds me of Droopy Dog.

I have yet to get a decent sound byte from Emmanuel Stewart during a fight. He brings no excitement, no drama, the man is like a corpse at times. Although I do not like Lampley that much, at least his voice of excitement is there unlike Merchant and Steward.

When ever I make a video, I have to not use anything with Steward in it.

I like Merchant, Im glad he is sticking around. That he wants to continue this way beyond retirement is testament to the guys dedication to boxing.

merchant is legendary for HBO and his opinion valued greatly amongst almost all of the boxing world.

But please, please, PLEASE get rid of kellerman :smilie_ahole:

I like that about him too. He's been great for boxing IMO.

Kellerman has a long way to go before he can ever fill the boots of Larry Merchant.

I agree. I like Larry's take on stuff. My favorite quote of his is from the last Rocky movie when he said of Rocky's exhibition versus Mason Dixon "They're calling it an exhibition because they didn't want to call it an execution."

I think Merchant and Kellerman are both great. HBO should give one of them to showtime, whose announcers have always been horrific.

My opinion is that Merchant and Kellerman are good announcers.

Has it been documented that Merchant is drunk during the show? I've always suspected that he has a glass of bourbon on hand during the fights that sits outside the view of the camera.

I'll take Merchant over Kellerman any day

I was watching one of my career sets, I think it was a Lennox Lewis fight not too sure, but he was stood there rocking back and forth while Jim was talking with a big grin on his face. He was obviously pissed as a fart. Gotta love Merchant.

Get rid of the entire crew. Can't stand the whining Max and Lampley, the corpse-like Steward, or the fossile Merchant, Emanuel gets paid around a million and can't even speak proper English. I can tolerate LL, however. Larry talks as if he has verbal constipation---just too slow and difficult for him to get it all out.

Larry is a legend, he's such an idiot sometimes but that doesn't take away from his legendary status.

Lederman, Merchant, Lampley are HBO Boxing and represent everything it stands for.

Kellerman is about as annoying as they come not in how he calls a fight but in the manner he always opts to side with the american fighter unlike the rest of the team.

I could genuinely of closed my eyes during calzaghe-jones jr and invisiged jones Jr winning round after round even when he was getting battered just because of the whining kellerman did in his favour, similar thing when ricky fought malignaggi he was genuinely attempting to get across that it was a close fight when it was a one sided beatdown.

And the pure cheek of telling calzaghe afterwards that 17 years, endless world titles, having never been beaten meant nothing unless he fought CHAD DAWSON

Kellerman is hated as much over here as is joe cortez and luis resto

I think the Showtime people kick the bottom of the HBO crew.

It's unsurprising Merchant got a new contract, you can't fail to look good up against Max Kellerman.
