Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
Ok, I'm sure there may have been a thread on this before but I couldn't find it, and I thought I'd ask why do people seem to hate Amir Khan quite as much as they do?
This is inspired by this article on the Ring website that paints the picture of a very likable, humble young man.
Khan can't afford to be star-struck against Barrera
I know some of the reasons will be that he's overhyped and has never fought any real challengers (well apart from Prescott ;)), but than is he any different from a lot of other fighters from these shores? The same accusations could just as easily be levelled at Froch & there's no way Khan is anywhere near the cockiest fighter about, & a lot of the interviews I've seen him give about MAB show a guy who's full of respect for the legend he's about to face. I find it really curious because a lot of British posters who seem to support & hype every other British boxer under the sun often ignoring logic, really lay into him.
I mean he's close to a model professional, he's not Audley giving us boring fights & he's not like Witter or Froch badmouthing the champion bitterly.
So why all the hate?

I honestly think it's because people picture him getting a free ride to the top on the Warren Express. Khan himself is not really the issue in the equation. He's definately got some admirable skills and hand speed, of course his chin must be brought up in any conversation.
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
yep killer the free ride on the Warren Express is part of it no doubt.
His cockiness is another part - and believeing his own hype. A lot of people forget he called out Mayweather (over 4 rounds) and said he was ready for him 2+ years ago. That annoyed me I can tell you - yes he's young but do you remember any other fighter in past doing that to the p4p best at such an early stage ??
I know there are other fighters who are cocky who the public don't turn against but Khan was like it off camera. Have told this story a couple of times before about when bollywood awards had an event in Leeds and he drove round the one way system on a summers evening in a Lamborghini blowing his horn basically saying 'look at me - do you know who I am'. Don't think there wasn't a bloke out that night in Leeds who didn't see him and say 'tosser'.;) Prove yourself then get cocky if you want.
We have also seen it before with Naz - striking similarities but Naz backed it up to a large extent (till he got in with another p4per - forget who that was ;))
People also resent the riches before they even step through the ropes - not his fault I know.
From what I've heard the Prescott defeat has humbled him so let's see. However if it wasn't for his chin with his skill, speed and agility he could potentially have gone on to be one of the best fighters this country has ever produced.
Unfortunately his chin isn't going to get any stronger though, and let's face it he's had some patchy moments with some lower rung fighters, so it's only a matter of time before the Khan Roadshow comes to an abrupt halt and I believe this will happen sooner rather than later.
Not sure if Barrera has enough left to end it next month...
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
From a global perspective being a young hyped Brit automatically guarantees a huge hate-filled bandwagon.
I certainly don't hate Khan.. I wish him well.
But things that are jarring concerning his career are - the over cynical matchmaking (powderpuffs because of his obvious china chin and now a PPV fighter) - and the fact he was constantly compared with Naz early doors. He was never going to emulate Naz ;)
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
Cuz he's a cocky, arrogant young man who can't back up his talk. Simple as.
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
It's always baffled me why people on here hate on Khan so much, I was going to start a thread on here a week or so ago very similar to this thread. It was a little sad to see how a lot of people revelled in his KO by Prescott, fellow Brits on here even having the KO as their sigi...
Khan himself is a nice lad if a little naive and a good prospect . Sure he's young and over confident but that's hardly a rarity in this sport.
People have taken their disdain for Warren and used it on Khan. I'll be interested to see how people treat the the likes of De Gale and Saunders when Warren has protected them for 10 - 20 fights
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
I don't hate Khan, but have have gone from looking forward to seeing him fight to looking forward to seeing him get knocked out. I think it has something to do with it being funny. Not even sure why.
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
Quite frankly all the Khan hate confuses me. I really don't see how people call him cocky... I don't know about off-camera, but on camera he's never showed a sign of cockyness to me and I've seen quite a few Khan interviews.
Saying he is fighting powderpuff fighters is also a pretty stupid reason. He is 22, he's still at an early age at his career... hell, Joe Calzaghe fought shitty opponents for the better part of 10 years, I don't see anyone seeing him want to get KTFO? In fact the reality is almost every fighters first 20 or so fights will be a steady building process, gradually increasing the opposition, which in truth he has...
His last 6 fights have been against a..- A previous world title challenger (correct me if i'm wrong) - Graham Earl
- A ex world champion (again, correct me if i'm wrong) - Gairy St.Clair
- A top 10 lightweight in the WBA rankings - Martin Kristjansen
- A ex WBU champion with decent power, past his best a bit maybe... - Michael Gomez
- A dangerous columbian banger with a almost perfect KO percentage, this one didn't turn out so well of course.. - Breidis Prescott
- And of course Oisin Fagan.... not much to say about him.
Which when you look at it isnt THAT bad. Every boxers first 20 or so fights will be padded slightly, why can't people seem to realise that?
When it all comes down to it I think one thing above all fuels the hate for him, especially in England - his race. Which I think is pretty sad, the boy is british either way. I couldn't care if he was knocked out 10 times in a row, if the boy was british I would be behind him 100% of the way. I'm backing him to beat Barrera and I hope he does, I think it's pretty low when people are running around saying they hope Barrera knocks him out brutally... especially if their british.

Guys like Mayweather, Tszyu, Cotto and ODLH had been in with real champs, and won world titles at the same stage of their career as Khan is at, yet none except maybe Oscar got the hype and especially the money Khan is getting....

Joe Calzaghe beat Chris Eubank for the WBO title after 4 years. He won the British title after 2 years.
Khan is in his 4th year as a pro. He's yet to challenge for the British title let alone a "world" title. He STILL hasn't proved himslef to be the best lightweight in Britain. Unbeaten John Murray is the Brit champ and Jon Thaxton is European champ.
Khan was purposely matched with powderpuff punchers because it looked likely (probably from the time Craig Watson turned him into a drunk) he was a bit chinny. It then became blatantly obvious his punch resistance was shockingly poor when non-punchers were hurting/decking him.
None of these things justify someone being a PPV fighter. That alone is enough to turn many neutrals against him.
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
cos he gets too much media coverage & is a greedy bstard
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
He's not humble at all, when he first came out, he was like I'm the best blah blah, kind of trying to be Naz or something. Maybe he can stfu now he got knocked out.
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
Although I made a video of him getting knocked the phuk out I don't hate the kid.
Re: Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)
Fenster is right here. It's the chin thing that annoys everybody*. It's obvious he can't take a punch from somebody his own weight so when he gets fed past-it super-feathers and nonpunching lightweights and he's still talking about world titles it gets on everybody's nerves. I don't dislike him but I really don't want to see him beat Barrera.
*or at least everybody on here, coupled with the world title talk.

Why should we support Khan just on that basis. We wouldnt be true boxing fans then if we supported fighters just because they are British .
Im backing Barrera over Khan because I much prefer him as a fighter. Nationality should never come into it. Its all about preference
I agree that if you dont really know either guy then you usually back the home fighter but at this level picking favourites isnt dicated by what Country they are from .
