Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Everytime I speak to boxing fans or trawl through forums Floyd Mayweather gets so much hate. I cant understand it. He has won titles from Super-Featherweight up to Light-Middleweight. He has beaten an impressive array of fighters. I will admit that he comes across as cocky and arrogant but I believe that's an act to come across as the bad guy. I don't think he's like that outside of the ring. A couple of his matches have been dull but the majority haven't. His speed, technical brilliance and awesome defence is a joy to watch. I think he gets flak for supposedly ducking Margerito and Cotto but after watching their last performances you can see why he didn't bother to chase fights with them. I dont understand why he's hated so much. I hope he comes back sooner rather than later.
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I won't lie he's my favourite fighter & I agree the arrogant thing is just an act. But fact is the only way he might come back is to fight Pacquiao. I just think he was sick of boxing. I think one thing is that there are less Mayweather fans who are simply one-fighter fans in the way that a lot of Hatton, De La Hoya & Pacquiao fans are, partly because he is unable to inspire the same devotion with his fans that these guys can
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I honestly thing he was a great fighter. As far as hating him, I think that's to strong a word. His Image persona is to create controversy. Guy that use this style are attention whores... He gets off on it. He believes that the more people there are pay attention to him (good and bad) the more potential he has for earning power. Point being his "haters" are by his own design and not those of the boxing fan. Calling your hero a "p*ssy" is a pure instigator that the boxing fan falls for.
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
As brilliant as he has been he didn't test himself enough to talk the way he does and to say that he's the greatest of all-time.
Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Oscar De la Hoya, Shane Mosley, Tito Trinidad, etc etc all tested themselves as much as they could when they were fighting.
Floyd has NEVER unified any weight class he has fought at and he has always left at least one guy in each division who could have challenged him.
The glaring omissions of Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, and others hurts Floyd's legacy
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather is hated for a plethora of reasons by many. I do NOT hate him because of the following (all of which I do not approve of):
-he's black
I DO hate him for these reasons:
- he fights dirty with his elbows
- he is a complete moron
- he said that HBO is a racist company after he fought on their network how many times and never complained while getting a paycheck?
- his moniquer is "money" how much more arrogant can you get?
- he basis his legacy on making the most money than any other fighter. Although there are so many more fighters who earned their paycheck in the ring by diligence and fighting "the best"
- he doesn't fight the best in the division. He has only fought newly crowned champs in every division above SupFeatherW
- He never answers interview questions, he just goes on a tangent about his new car or his new watch.
- His arrogance and stupidity are not an act... he really is that dumb. He was just managed well by his family who are all ex- champs.
- He fakes so hard by crying in the ring after every fight. I mean seriously, grow up.
- He speaks about himself in the 3rd person. A true sign of ultimate arrogance
- Honestly, I hate him for the judges giving him the decision in the first castillo fight. That one I can't help. It's just me being mad for a poor decision. Congrats to him winning the second fight, but castillo would have KOed him in the third fight!
- His family smells bad
- Mayweather Sr looked like the predator on crack when he had dreds.
- He wore ostrich skin trunks for a fight to be flashy.
- I hated his entrance to the Gatti fight ontop of the elevated chair dressed as a gladiator. His is no gladiator. He is a feather-fisted twaat. Kudos for KOing Hatton, but one good performance out of how many fights? And finally... a quality opponent, although not at his weight.
Shall I go on?
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I think PBF is top notch and his defensive skills are pretty amazing to say the least.
He does though need to soundly beat people like Lyle has listed in order to be a great and i wouldn't see him having any trouble in doing so at all.
Think he'd wipe the floor with all the above mentioned really.
Winning belts at the various weights that Floyd has is special in itself so i have nothing but respect for him.
Like i said he's top notch Material and his ringcraft is different gear:cool:

Considerin you had to resort to hating him because 'his family smell bad' & because of how his dad looks you probably haven't got much more that would be a reasonable complaint. I can't see Castillo KOin him, I think by the 2nd fight PBF had figured him out & would have done the same in a 3rd.

thats weird:confused: a few years ago I distinctly remember you saying he had to fight guys like Delahoya and Hatton to solidify his greatness
The man was a training machine and dedication and discipline was 2nd to none.
I think being a 5 weight champion is pretty damn impressive seeing he started at such a low weight and managed to keep climbing all the way..He attained an abundance of accolades and achievments by 29, and to me is quite possibly the best skilled fighter off all time.. The guy is a perfect combonation of speed power and technique and the best/ practical defense I have ever seen
I wouldnt consider him an underdog against any fighter in history from 147 and lower. The guy has it all
The fact that no fighter had ever been able to push him to a life in death struggle is a testemant to his greatness, and I think thats what blurs the line for many
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
OK JT so you see no challenges that Floyd skipped past or that could still be out there for Floyd?
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Because he's a fucking prick.
He's an egomaniac, and it's not an act.
He's been tried, and convicted twice, for hitting women, and just got a slap on the wrist for it. :furious2:
His horrible, outside the ring antics, totally diminish anything he does in the ring IMO.
I hope he stays retired, because I don't miss him one bit.
He's a spoiled, immature, brat, that needs a good swift kick in the balls, and I would gladly volunteer for the job. ;D

I ain't sayin its right, but he's never been convicted. He plead guilty on one occasion & was acquitted on the other

That's might not be exactly true... If the Judge sentenced him it would mean that he was convicted by the Judge. I never followed Mayweather so I'm not aware of the story. Had I known that before I would change my definition of 'distaste' to "Hate". I can't stand "Cowards"...like that!
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I think most people dont like him but respect him. Thats his own doing. I dont think there is a person who seen him fight that doesnt recognise his skills. Im no fan myself but I think he was a very good fighter. Hes just not likeable to a lot of people, myself included.

There will always be a challenge out their no matter what..
Hopkins-Dawson
Calzaghe-Dawson
Hopkins might be done for good
Calzaghe is retired
But there is a threat out their for both, Chad Dawsonhe is just an example, Floyd decided he didnt want to fight anymore, he dosent want to put his life, body on the line anymore.. When you fight when you dont want to anymore thats when you hurt yourself or cant do your best..
We dont decide when its over, he does... you can hate him all you want and post how you feel ripped off because he didnt fight this one or that one and how he dosent deserve to be called great...While you all speculate there is already a plaque and place set aside in Canastota for Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather jr... That is a fact!!!

Let me remind you Floyd called out Mosley 2x and Shane didnt want to know anything, and while Floyd carved up Gatti in front of Hatton and Cotto, there was not even a peep coming from the 2 of them...
