Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
Apologies for another Pac related thread but just read this article on BBC. I know Hatton weighs around or just under 150lbs come fight night but in this article he says he'll be 11st (154lbs!!!)
BBC SPORT | Boxing | Hatton 'too strong for Pacquiao'
I can understand Hatton wanting to make the most of his size advantage over Pac but he'll be giving away even more speed to an already very fast fighter.
Surely this can't be right? He wouldn't risk being at a career high weight in a fight at this magnitude? Seems a big gamble to me
Re: Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
He would not be giving away the trade secrets so early on, it is just a ploy, he will come in at 150lb
Re: Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
He should come in around the same as he did vs. Paulie. He probably does usually weight at least 150 for fight night.
Re: Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
154 is what he came in against Mayweather, and Kostya Tszyu, I think thats the right weight for him. I hope he doesn't make the same mistake Oscar did in trying to be as light as possible to move quicker. IMO trying to outbox Pacquiao at this point in his career is a huge mistake for anyone except JMM and Mayweather. Hatton needs to be able to get Pacquiao on the ropes, and have the strength to suffocate his offense. At 154 he would still be light enough to move well.

Are you sure about that Taeth? Mayweather I can believe with the fight being at WW but not so sure on KT. To gain a whole stone in 24 hours seems a lot.

I agree, It's just too much. I don't know why he's contradicting himself anyway. Hatton said 4 to 6 lbs is optimum for re-hydration. (I saw it in a training interview) Now he's saying he'll rehydrate 14lbs. He had better plan to knock out Manny in the first 8 rounds. I think that is one big mistake because it will wreak his stamina totally in the later rounds. I heard his weight can be dramatic but I serious doubt he can do 14lbs. Perhaps it's just a mask. All this crap Mayweather Sr. spouts about Hatton being a different fighter what the hell is anyone suppost to believe.
Re: Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
Hatton better be in good shape. So his people won't make any excuses for him.
Re: Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
Hatton is now in panic mode... He's not sure what weight he will come in, 150?, 152?, 154? ... He's not sure if he'll box (as suggested by Floyd Sr.) or be as his old self, the brawler...
Hope Team Hatton will have a definite excellent fight plan... He need it to be at least competitive...
But all of these things will not matter... He will probably still receive the worst beating in his life courtesy of the PACMAN...
.

He comes down from like 180, its normal to put on a lot of weight. I mean Manny was going from 135 to 147 or 148 at lightwieght, that is pretty close. Based on Hatton's body type, how he eats and drinks outside of training camp, he is the type of guy that will put on quite a bit of weight, he stated after the Collazo fight where he weighed in at 160 that normally when he fought at 140, he was coming into the ring at 152-154, and that he wanted to do that against Mayweather.

I think your stretching a bit, Pacquiao has a very tough fight, against the worst style this side of Mayweather in Ricky Hatton. Don't get me wrong I favor him to win because he is the better fighter, but his worst fight IMO was against somebody that smothered him, and Hatton is a lot better than that guy. Also Pacman isn't Mayweather who really changed his style from when he fought Castillo to when he fought Hatton. Pacquiao doesn't clinch as much to suffocate Hatton's offensive, nor does he have that shoulder roll or the same moves off the ropes, and Hatton is a good body puncher, and Pacquiao has been vulnerable to the body shots, he has only been stopped by body punches, and Marquez hurt him in their fight with a body punch, which he lowered his output for those 4 rounds Marquez won in the middle rounds.

It could be a stretch but I think Team Hatton will have difficulties on deciding what will be the correct strategy... Go heavy and lose speed? Box or brawl? These are just some of the many factors...
PAC this early was installed as the clear 2 to 1 favorite since oddsmakers consider that Hatton's usual come forward brawling style is made for PAC... PAC will have a field day hitting Hatton... unless Team Hatton can come up with the perfect stragedy...

4 - 6lbs re-hydration
4-6lbs carbohydrate consumption
8-12lbs sounds about right.
148-152 fight night.
That's what i'd guess. 154 isn't much higher. It won't make a big difference anyway. I still think Pac would be too fast for him regardless what weight he comes in at.
Re: Hatton expecting to weigh 154lbs come fight night Vs Pac!!
I also think it's worth noticing that an increase in size does not mean a decrease in speed... possibly the opposite as long as it's good weight.
In Laments terms: Muscles create movement and force... fast twitch muscles are responsible for quick outputs of muscular power... therefor speed output.
Obviously muscle weighs something. Why would having more weight in fast twitch muscle make you slower?
Get a skinny Marathon Runner or somebody with the relativly big sprinters build and see which one can run faster...
If Oscar had came in heavier then it's likely that he wouldn't have been so slow and lethargic. So no... Hatton shouldn't worry about coming in light... just coming in right... what ever weight.

Exactly.
The weight he will put on between the weigh in and the fight is very important as it will be his fuel for the fight. When he is fully re-hydrated and his muscle gylcogen stores are full he will feel at his best.
And like you say, adding muscle won't slow you down unless it's to the point where flexibility is severley hindered.....something that a 140lb fighter is unlikely to have to worry about.
