For the first time in my life I complained about service at a restaurant...
...and I feel kind of bad about it.
My girlfriend took me out for a nice dinner, and the service was god awful, so we complained. They knocked our bill down from $80 to $40 etc. and were really nice about it. However, I feel sort of bad now.
The service was horrible though. No food + drink specials given, no water given (other tables nearby did not have this problem) and the food took FOREVER to arrive. We were there for 2 goddamn hours because of the slow-ass service. After the appetizers, we were told to keep out used cutlery because they "weren't used to serving 3 course meals". It was part of a city wide promotion called Dine Around Town where restaurants provide a 3 course meal for $20 each. The didn't offer us an pepper or condimints etc. (again, other people were offered condiments + pepper) with our food, and when it took over 45 mins between our appy's and our main course to arrive (even though they were ordered at the same time and supposed to be served as a 3 course meal would), they didn't offer any explanation or even both coming by the table to check on us. Then, even though we asked for our dessert to be served when they brought us the main course, the dessert didn't arrive for over 25 mins, again no explanation or even any attention.
So we bitched and got some money back, but I still feel bad about it.

Like I'd eat at any place that would hire you.

I do feel we were justified in complaining, I just feel bad about it. I don't want anyone to get in trouble because of me, regardless of how incompetent they were.

Don't feel bad!! Especially with the kind of service that you got.
It's not like you guys did a dine and dash, then you would have something to feel bad about. ;)

Dude it is the customers right to complain. On my vacation , my wife and I ate at many £100 per head restaurants , there was only 1 of these in which i didn't complain in some way.
So really don't feel bad mate.

ha well it just seems odd to me that you'd complain in all but one. I mean, all kidding aside I am prob. more to be like CFH and unless the meal was covered in hair or the deal got completly botched i'd likely not say anything. Not saying its right way to be.
Don't you work in the restaurant business or something? Is that why you are more critical? Honestly, I'm just curious, not judging.

Yes we do have business interests in the restaraunt industry.
Lets just say we have been to restaurants all over the world , and our standards when it comes to food are high indeed.
Its not about the price you pay , for a meal , its the overall experience.
Food can be judged at any level based on the experience.
But for the record i personally don't eat fast food , that would be a total gastric -intestinal - apocalypse ,and a date with the WHITE THUNDERBOX FOR ME.
Re: For the first time in my life I complained about service at a restaurant...
You were right to complain if you found it shoddy. No need to feel bad about it. Incompetence needs to be called out and treated.

haha well Im with you there. Yesterday my boss is telling us about the 50% off we get on our food we eat and I laughed, so he asks me, "What's funny?" Not wanting to seem a prick right at the get go I said "oh nothing, sorry" Then he asked me a bit later when I was by myself what that was about, so told him "I appreciate the discount, but a pile of shit is still shit, and taking 50% off the asking price doesn't exactly sweeten the deal. " lol thankfully he has a sence of humor and directed me to some of the "healthier foods" they serve. :p

I'm surprised you would complain at so many restaurants Al, I mean that's not very 'British' now is it? Maybe CFH is right... ;);D
Seriously though, I've only ever had the balls to complain once in my life. I waited close to 2 hours for a steak at a local pub due to it being so busy. My complaint was born from the fact I'd drank 5 - 6 pints waiting so I felt all brave! ;D
Got a full refund on meal though!
