Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
yeah for sure... like a blast from the past some of the names on the list :-X
used to like watching Darren Corbet back in the day have fond memories of him ko'n the bad mamajamma :-X but that was allllooooonnnnggggg time ago ;)
Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I was hoping to take Francis on (obvious he would be the favourite) because I don't think the format or step-up in weight will particually suit him, but he's the only one with any form coming into it.
Scrap, hows Dunstan doing? He's a 6/1 shot... could be worth some shrapnel

Chris Okoh was on a bad run coming into that fight . He was winning but looking poor and the Corbett fight was supposed make his name. Instead it ruined him.
Darren then had that fight with the currnet British champ Rob Norton, alot of clowning and holding in that fight, then Bruce Scot also in this prize fighter knocked Corbet out.
This is by far the best prize fighter cuz its all the old names I used to watch when I was at school getting 1 last shot . Im surprised Deans fighting in it though cuz its a step down for him . He just knocked out Oakey for teh British title at light heavy.

Very starange that Francis i read a few months ago he was in line to fight for the wbo 175 belt in Germany what happened there?

Francis vs Simpson -
Not sure this prize fighter suits Dean.He is a supermiddle and he never liked working at pace. He was a slow starter vs Oakey last time and a decade ago Mark Baker made him fight at a tempo he didnt like. I think he may live to regret giving up his belt but he should have enough to get past the Coventry Journeyman.
Keaton vs Scot -
Ive seen alot of both guys and got chatting to Scott at the Hatton -Rowland fight at the velodrome. Even though Keatons been knocked out twice by Scot im gonna lean towards the underdog pulling off a shock. 3rd time lucky. Lat time he just kept on coming forward non stop and got tagged eventually but over 4 rounds I fancy his style to be too much for a ring rusty Scott. I'll be cheering for Bruce though, I was backing him vs Nicky Piper when his eye swelled and he went on to do the same thing to Delaney .He floored Enzo but got knocked out.
Dunstan - Mckenzie
Terry was once a fringe world class fighter . He beat Gurov in seconds and Haye did the same thing a decade later . He was awful when he got beat by Immamu Mayfield and after the Thomspon double knockdown KO loss we didnt hear from him again . I expect he wont be in any fighting condition here but should get past the 1st round if his chin holds up
Corbet - Steeds
Darren said he was gonna be the 1st guy in history to win titles coming down in weight. Never happend and his glory night was the Okoh fight . for 4 rounds he will be a handful but I remember he couldnt knock out a Belgian guy that Johhny Nelson sparked in a round so I dont think hes a massive hitter .
Anyone know where this is being held? I might go

Re: Matchroom Boxing: Cruiserweight Prizefighter Draw Announced
I hope Dean Francis wins, his shoulder is still dodgy but he can win this and earn some money.

He has had a few fights since the Undra White fight and it seems Okay. Carl Thopmson, Danny Williams and Vitali havent looked back since their shoulder gave out on them.
Dean has to be odds on but im not convinced his style is suited to prizefighter. He predicts he will win every fight with a 1 round KO. He was probably just being cheeky but its gonna be tough to knock out naturally bigger men who will be fresh.

Have you seen him since that fight? He has no confidence in his right arm. Apart from against Oakey, when he was forced to throw the right because of the pressure he was under, he fights almost exclusively with the left.

The 6/1 about Dunstan is long gone. ;)

Agreed he is very tentative with his right and I bet he will hardly use it. Fortunately for him he can win it with one arm.

Yeah Dean should be favourite but can you see him fighting all out for every minute ? He usually takes afew rounds to find his range. Tony Oakey would be a decent prize fighter .
I wanted to go to this but I gotta be in Leeds 1st thing in the morning . It should be the best prizefighter yet . Looking 4ward to it.
