Dogs as intelligent as two-year-old children - Telegraph
I've suspected my dog has a fairly large vocabulary. And much as some suggest it can't be so, I am near positive I have watched her trying to talk. Trying to formulate some of those words she understands, then getting frustrated when her vocal cords won't make the word and she ends up showing me in actions what she means or wants.
Cool stuff. The basic math as well.
Yeah it doesn't supris me at all.
Honestly I think a lot of animals are smarter than we would've thought.
My budgie goes nuts when i whisper because he's so focussed on working out what i'm saying so he can mimic it. He gets really frustrated if he can't hear me but my lips are moving!
He's mimicing things quite quickly and since he has many many toys (can't help myself) and his cage is left open he's learnt to play with just about everything - yet budgies would be considered not that smart!
I've taught 'dumb' sheep to understand hand signals.
At my mum's house the cat is very vocal. She'd seem smarter than the dog but i think part of it has to do with motivation.
Hide food somewhere and the dog will NOT be fooled! ;D
Corvids are exceptionally intelligent.
Some of the tests they have done with ravens and crows are amazing, they have solved tests that previously have only been solvable by urangutans.

Make sure you watch the vids, and also check the links to the right of the page for more, but they can solve some impressive puzzles including even making tools to get at food.
I love crows and ravens, they are so gothic and sinister, and knowing that they are so highly intelligent is enough to send a chill down you if being watched by them in a graveyard or something.
Not that I hang out in graveyards, I just mean it as an example of an animal being sinister, in a cool way.

Great video I love the idea of crows performing useful duties, I imagine it must have been like that back in the days of Adam and Eve before the Great Flood of Noah's time.

Another good thing our dog does is know the right 'answers' for Qs we give her. Sometimes she gets it wrong but she's right at least 80 % of the time.
My sister will ask her things like:
"Are you a good dog" - bark
"Are you a clever dog" - bark
"do you love me" - bark
"Are you a pretty dog" - bark
"Are you a bad dog" - deadly silence
We generally do this and get her insanley excited at the sight of a doggy chocolate and make the Qs in random order. When she gets
"Are you a bad dog" she's just hanging to bark again but holds it depite us waiting an extra second or two to see if she will be tricked. :)

First of all, two year olds are retarded-like.....so its not that great to be smarter than them. They can't read maps or run really fast.
Second, a man told me one time that if you cut a crows tongue they can talk. But he said he had one as a child and his dad tried to do this operation when he was drunk and it bled to death. (This guy may have been bullshitting me).
