Strategies that backfired big time!
What strategies that have boxers taken away from their normal style that failed miserably and back fired?

i'd say the most famous is DLH's infamous last 3 rnds against Trinidad
Re: Strategies that backfired big time!
De la Hoya vs Vargas for the first part of the fight...it was I think his first fight with Floyd Sr. as his trainer...it took him a while to be able to use that style and be effective.
Chris Byrd vs Wladimir Klitschko in the rematch...how's a defensive fighter with no power going to pressure somebody like Wlad???
Wladimir vs Sanders, he was all too eager to give up his height and reach and stand and trade early on. If Wlad fought Sanders in the style that Wlad has right now it would be a walk in the park.
Ricky Hatton trying to become Floyd Mayweather, that didn't work too well.
Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran I....you don't try and tough it out with a rowdy ass slugger like Duran
Re: Strategies that backfired big time!
One that sticks is Holyfield during the 2nd round of 1st fight w/Bowe.Things got gritty, sat down and tried to play power game the rest of the way.....Conn slugging with Louis with a win right around the corner.
Re: Strategies that backfired big time!
Meldrick Taylor's whole career....he had the fastest hands, he could have been a very slick boxer and been very successful, but nope, his pride got the best of him
Re: Strategies that backfired big time!
Making my predictions before everyone else and Waterloo

nah, DLH's first fight with Floyd Sr. in his corner was the Gatti fight
Re: Strategies that backfired big time!
Holyfield going into the first Lewis fight and his ONLY plan was to KO him in the 3rd. That´s faith!
Tommy Morrison boxing Lennox cautiosly and going for broke against Mercer. Had he done it the other way around, he might well have won both fights

Oh yeah I was about to type Meldrick Taylor but saw your post. He had to be a philly fighter instead of using his natural abilities. As explained by the Legendary Nights HBO series. What happened was that he became a shot fighter in his 20s.
