Older Canadian boxers that have disappeared
Hi there, was wondering if anyone could give me any information on some older canadian boxers that seems to have just disappeared? Boxers including Larry Kerney, Tristian Judge, and Taylor Wentworth...anyone with any information?? Where they are now, how to contact them? If they're still boxing?

Kirk Johnson, more or less retired with money and just never came back to the Ring.
Why to they have to be canadian, by the way?

johnson was in line to fight lewis at one point was he not?
Think Michael Grant got the fight instead and the rest is history!!
Re: Older Canadian boxers that have disappeared
Kirk Johnson was supposed to fight Lennox Lewis but was injuried just a few weeks before the fight. Vitali Klitshcko was fighting on the undercard and agreed to step in on short notice to fight Lewis.
Kirk Johnson was involved in a dispute with the Halifax police department and woundup winning a judgement against them for $1mil+ and hasn't fought since.
I always thought he could have been good enough to win a alphabet strap but his stock dropped after he outboxed Ruiz only to be QD'd for about 256 lowblows.

I'm from his area and remember the case. He was driving in a rough end of town with tinted windows and texas plates. Police pulled him over and checked him out and released him. He sued claiming racism. Cops could see the color of his skin through tinted windows I guess.
Back in 1990 my brother in law was bouncing at a local bar and refused to let Kirk in without ID. Kirk came back with 4 friends and pulled the race card then. According to boxrec he was born in 72 which means he would have been 18 at the time. Which is underage here in NS.
Claims like his hurt the people with legitamate ones.
That's my rant for the day.
That being said, if he came back i'd probably still root for him, being local and all. ;D

The rest of the history has been summed up quite good above, the guy had talent, was quite good, he just kinda never walked to the ring ever again. Heard on a Canadian website (on rds.ca, a while ago) that he was weighting something like 300 pounds now and had no interests at all in boxing anymore.... well, if the guy's multi millionaires, we can understand a bit why.

To be fair Ruiz was pushing down on him which caused the blows to be low.
Kirk Johnson got demolished by Vitali Klitschko.
Re: Older Canadian boxers that have disappeared
The Kirk Johnson HRM Police thing was settled for 25,000 dollars as far as I know. Not 1 Million.
Re: Older Canadian boxers that have disappeared
Yeah looks like the amount is out of wack according to Wiki
Johnson launched a protracted legal battle against the Police. During the enquiry Johnson claimed that he had his car stopped 28 times over five years while in Halifax. Johnson was awarded $10,000 in damages, in addition to $4,790 to cover his travel expenses. The police service was also ordered to create a scholarship in Johnson's name. It will be awarded annually to a student from North Preston.

Johnson became a laughingstock when he came in fat and out of shape and just rolled over for Vitali Klitschko

Yeah, he just didn't have the fire anymore I think, he still had the talent to do something very decent though and I much respect a guy for stepping down when he doesn't feel it anymore rather than seeing him to the downfall or simply making a fool of himself because he's just huge like a mammoth and out of shape.
Re: Older Canadian boxers that have disappeared
I remember Johnson slamming Al Cole in the lego's quite a few times as well.Thought he lost that 1st one.Ko of Maskaev was horrific:fight:
