Does boxing need hatton back?
Cant help but think since may the sport has lost its biggest personality and all the fan fare and excitement that comes with a ricky hatton showdown.
This sport needs its personalitys to survive and despite not managing to win either of his 2 major showdowns he brought a hell of a lot of anticipation and charisma.
Remembering standing in the middle of a packed out vegas strip belting out a hatton chant and wondering if there truly is a single person in not just the sporting world but across the globe who can truly bring this kind of excitement and passion with them?
Not for all your mayweathers, mosleys, calzaghes and klitschkos can you get or create such anticipation and intrigue as a ricky hatton

Your supposed to be hitting your prime at that age not calling it a day. So he got knocked out by manny pacquiao and floyd mayweather. 2 of the very best around and you could quite easily argue that ricky has already fought his 2 hardest fights and should still be able to retire as world champion.
Fact is ricky hatton pulls in fans all over the world. It would be a crying shame if someone so young decided to pack it in just because of 2 defeats!!

Yes he is 30, well 31 in a few weeks but what is Hattons objective the guy has been involved in some of the biggest ppv's ever in boxing, now me personally if I had got to them heights I wouldnt be happy fighting bums in my own backyard, i just dont see the point??
So my point is if Hatton wants to get to them lofty heights ( im pretty certain there is about the same chance of Kid Thunder having the same run) He will have to string together 3/4 solid wins, now Hatton is 31 how long will it take to get them fights in 2 years minimum??
Maybe one more fight to finish of a win against a light hitting contender/title holder maybe but a go at the top again?? NO it will end in disaster imo.

Great champions face adversity head on and come through it. In america if you lose a big fight you simply dust yourself off and come back a better person for it. Yet in britain we seem to just give up and tell our fighters to retire.
Lennox got bashed something wrong when rahman done him and there was nationwide calls for him to call it a day. But in carrying on he cemented his legacy in the sport.....and he was much older than hatton.
ps: how weird, lol. Ive literally not an hour ago watched rounds 5 through finish of the maussa fight. Genuinely though it was just his IBF on the line (is super WBA actually the official WBA belt?)

Come on mate, same as Mosley?? Hatton was knocked the fuck out and was down three times in 2 rounds, Mosley lost a very close fight to Cotto and the second fight with Winky was a competitive fight.
But in truth Hammer Hatton is not a great fighter hes a good fighter whose popularity and his win over KT have got him where he is.
Everyone new Lewis didnt take the Rahman contest seriously he was filiming oceans eleven couple of weeks before, difference is Lewis was a very strong favourite to beat Rahmen in the rematch, I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who would give Hatton a chance in a rematch.
My main problem is Hatton doesnt look the same fighter, his chin looked awful again Manny and Manny is not a devestating puncher far from it ( watch the Diaz fight for proof he threw the kitchen sink at him for 9 rounds)
Hatton is only 31 not very old Mosley is 38 but there different styles Hatton has taken alot of punishment and for me there is no point on giving it another go. He wont get to the top again.

Skel is right - it's all about how you lose.
Mosley has never been humiliatingly knocked out.
Hatton never had the style for longevity (had a good run mind). Once the face first pressure merchants start getting battered they're done.

Maussa won the WBA Belt from Vivian Harris why else would Ricky fight someone so shit?? 1 reason cos he was the WBA champ, suprised you didnt know that mate, as soon as Hatton won Frank Warren signed up M'Baye lets take two guesses why that was, oh yes M'Baye was the number one contender in the WBA rankings ;).

Well, I miss Hatton and would love to see him fight again even if it isn't on the same level as before. It would be nice for the fans to see him one last time in Manchester at least.
He can't want to go out on the back of that loss.

The sport has 2 genuine cross-over superstars in Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao, with possibly a 3rd should Miguel Cotto be victorious on November 14th.
Fact is it no longer looks like Hatton was the draw in the US for his fights with Mayweather, unless you argue JMM is a bigger draw.
In all honesty, I'm not sure even boxing in Britain needs Hatton, he didn't make it more accessible to the general public fighting on Box Office. If he was such a star & made boxing better, why can't Froch get a fight on tv? I'd take that over Ricky fighting a tomato can on PPV any day of the week.
So, no, boxing doesn't need him. Him being there or not doesn't make the slightest difference to anyone but his fans.

I do miss him for sure. Followed him for years. But. Its time to sit back, remember the good nights and let the show go on i'm afriad. As Lyle says, things are still movin on. Although Hatton might not be fighting, he defo brings on some good shows himself for sure. He puts on a good show on his promotion and I'd say things will only get better o the British scene atleast. There are fighters to keep us entertained for a while IMO, I say we should dish out some support elsewhere, it'll help British boxing for sure. Maybe not greats and i'm sure there are more.....

I don t think boxing needs Hatton as there are lots of other young exciting fighter coming through the ranks in the UK.
What British boxing need despratly is tv coverage.
This time last year there were loads of outlets for UK boxers to get much need expousure but very soon its just going to be down to sky tv.
That IMO is British boxings most imedeate problem at the moment.
