A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
Hi Lads,
New to the site, but massive massive fan of the sweet science. Sod MMA, boxing for me will never be replaced!
I just wanted to get a feel of who's who on here and wanted to ask you all a few simple questions:
1. Favourite Current Boxer?
2. Favourite Boxer of all time?
3. Matchup you would just love to see right now?
4. One to watch?
I'll start you off with mine...
1. Ricky Hatton - Don't know if you can call him current, but I am British and he just makes me proud to be one. I give it to him on just the fact that I have had more goodnights in watching him than anyone else. Hatton vs Tszyu was a night I will never forget.
Also love SSM. I love everything he stands for in boxing. He's a throwback fighter and wants to take on everyone. Ducks no one and wants to make a name for himself and leave a legend.
2. Roberto Duran - Some won't agree I'm sure, but 5 decades as a boxer and ducked no one. Classic fights, lethal power...just loved him.
3. Shane Mosely vs Floyd Mayweather Jnr - Just because I think Mosely would do him. Can't see it happening though.
By the way the real dream fight would be a "Welterweight Super Six". Imagine Mayweather, Cotto, Pacquiao, Berto, Mosely and Clottey...oh yes!!!
4. One to watch for me has to be Nathan Cleverly. He's coming boys. Young, just found power in his punch and his boxing brain is brilliant. Also like David Lemieux - 18 wins, 18 KOs and in only 2 years. He's also fighting live opponents. Definately one to watch.
So what about you guys...or girls???
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
1. Favourite Current Boxer?
Urm? Pac, I guess but only because all my favourites have retired (or should be retired) recentley; it was Calzaghe and Barrera.
2. Favourite Boxer of all time?
Ali. Not the most interesting answer, I know. Nigel Benn would be a, slightly, more interesting answer and I grew up watching him.
3. Matchup you would just love to see right now?
I'm sick of these catch-weight fights. A lot of the fights I want to see are going to happen in this Super-Six tournament! Although... Klitschko v Klitschko!!!
4. One to watch?
Certainly not Andre Dirrell!!!Oh, you mean one to watch for the future ;) only having seen up-and-coming British fighters I would have to say Clev too.
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
Favourite current boxer -
Hmm, i'd say JMM. So much heart, and hasn't had the breaks. Until recently it would have been Calzaghe.
All-time Favourite -
Joe Calzaghe/Joe Frazier. Frazier before my time but followed Joe his whole career.
Match-up love to see-
So many. I'm thinking Kessler - Abraham. But number one would be Mosely - Mayweather.
One to watch -
British perspective, Kell Brook.
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
Hey Brit, Welcome!
1. Shane Mosley
2. James Toney
3. David Haye vs Wladimir Klistschko
4. John O'Donnell Kell Brook Damn you Ryanman ;D
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
I agree with you, Hatton Vs Tszyu was a fight I'll always remember. One of my fondest boxing memories.
1. Favourite Current Boxer? - Floyd Mayweather or Pacman
2. Favourite Boxer of all time? - Joe Calzaghe, Mayweather, Tszyu, Ali and Frasier (in order of appearance.
3. Matchup you would just love to see right now? - Tossup between Mayweather Vs Pacman, Mayweather Vs Mosley or Kessler Vs Abraham.....I can't wait for Cotto Vs Pacman either!
4. One to watch? - Nathan Cleverley, Kell Brooke
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
Cheers guys. Keep em coming!
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
1. Floyd Mayweather Jr
2. It would be between Ali & the 2 Sugar Rays, but again as they're all before my time, I might have to go with Mayweather as he's the one I grew up watching.
3. Mayweather vs Pacquiao would be great for the sport, although I'm going to go with a UK perspective here & say Khan vs Hatton. I think that could be a truly massive event over here.
4. Danny Jacobs, I think he's the future of the Middleweight division & met him in Vegas after the Hatton-Pacquiao fight & was a really cool guy.
Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
1. Favorite Current Boxer -
Jhonny Gonzalez, he doesn't always win. But when he gets his man in trouble he knows how to finish, he knows how to cut off the ring. Been following him for a long time.
2. Favorite Boxer of all time -
This changes on a pretty regular basis for me, right now I've been appreciating the finer points of Sweet Pea
3. Matchup I'd love to see right now -
JuanMa vs. Caballero, get this done before they have to move up to Feather.
4. One to watch -
Saul Alvarez, at 19 years old he will have 30 fights under his belt by the time he is 20. A throwback fighter that usually is going backwards but has great power in his right hand.
Welcome to the forum.

1. Favourite Current Boxer?
My favorite current boxer would be JMM with Cotto a close second.
2. Favourite Boxer of all time?
Of course would be Morales he was great i though he had it all speed power reach height chin with a lil lack of defence ;) but was always entertainin to watch from to bell.
Honorable mention to Alexis Arguello.
3. Matchup you would just love to see right now?
I would love to see JMM vs. Pac 3 before Marquez get any older. That or Mosley/Mayweather.
4. One to watch?
A good upcomin fighter would be Antonio Escalante ive seen him tons in Solo Boxeo and in espn hes a good boxer who currently has tighten his defense and is more complete than ever with huge power.

Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
These are always some of the hardest questions to ask, but, here goes anyway ......
1. Favourite current boxer... hmm, it's a mix up between Marco Huck, Martin Rogan (just for bein a real brawler n a bloody nice guy) and Mayweather, just cos, everytime I watch him he seems to defy my previous judgement of him.
2. Fave boxer of all time... maybe Chris Eubank or Calzaghe, I guess cos I grew up watching them.
3. Best Matchup now... I love the idea of Yuriorkis Gamboa and Juan Manuel Lopez
4. One to watch... I would say Matt Korobov but hes not exactly a secret, someone I was impressed with recently was George Groves, he'll be in some interesting fights for sure

Re: A Few Boxing Questions From the Newbie
welcome to the site mate, hope to see you fully conversing with the locals and engaging in daily banter in no time ;D;D;D
Favorite active boxer
there can only be one hitman. Life rarely throws you a combination of a great fighter who`s also great to watch. HATTON IS GOD
All time
Roberto Duran. This sport will never quite see another fighter like it.
Matchup id like to see
Hatton-mayweather II, in a normal sized ring with a non byest ref.
One to watch
Nathan Cleverly is a star in the making. Britains been crying out for a natural light heavyweight world champion for years. We`ve finally got one.
