Sports personaility ten on the shortlist
Jenson Button
Mark Cavendish
Tom Daley
Jessica Ennis
Ryan Giggs
David Haye
Philips Idowu
Andy Murray
Andrew Strauss
Beth Tweddle
Now for me 8 of the 10 deserve to be there, but Andy Murray?? World number 4 hasnt won a grand slam actully hasnt even progressed from last year, compare that to Lee Westwood in golf who has won more events and is the World Number 3 in Golf add to that Murray has probably the worst personality in world sport. All the other sports people on the list are winners what they gonna show when the clip of Murray comes up him getting beat when it matters as usual??
Now as many no im a Manchester United fan but this cock up Giggs arse is getting a bit much the way the media are going on you would think he was 50 years old playing for United he is 36 which is getting on in footballing terms but has been done loads of times he doesnt play alot of matches is playing amazing football but a nomination for Sports Personality of the year?? Not for me.
I think Button will probably win it but my vote goes to Ennis just for the fact the amount of events she competes into be the best add to that she in tiny and is giving up alot of physical size and strength to the majoirty of the others in her sport.
1.Button
2.Ennis
3.Haye
Thats how I think it will end up.
Re: Sports personaility ten on the shortlist
The overseas award could be intresting, do you reckon Pac has a chance?
I think Bolt will probably get it but would be quality if Pacquiao got it.
Re: Sports personaility ten on the shortlist
To be fair Murray has won 6 titles this year, two of which were masters.
Some people that are unlucky to miss out -
Andrew Flintoff
Bradley Wiggins
Lee Westwood
Flintoff received the same number of votes (10) as Tom Daley, so I'm not sure why Daley is in but Flintoff isn't.
Beth Tweddle, again?!
I know she won a world title but it hardly captured the imagination did it?
I don't buy into this 'but he hasn't even got a personality thing'.
Personality doesn't just mean having a personality, its also something you can BE. Somebody is a personality in the world of sport.
This is how its meant, not as in who has the best personality.
For me the award is for achivement of course, but also achievment in an event or situation that captures the attention of the public.
This year i'd say the events/achievments that entered the national consciousness this year include;
Haye's world title win
Button/Brawn's rise from the ashes to win both titles
Ennis' win at world championships
England's Ashes win (The signature moment of which was probably Flintoff's 5fer and one knee celebration...he should be in)

Yea 99% sure it will be Bolt but would be great if its Pac.
By the way, a defination of the word 'personality' from dictionary.com -
"a famous, notable, or prominent person; celebrity."
Pretty sure this is the context in which the award is set.
Re: Sports personaility ten on the shortlist
Crap list
Button - Did his best to lose the title, was lucky to be in a superior car. Had about 6 other drivers had that car, he would not have won.
Murray - I actually think he is the 3rd best player in the world on his day, but he is a choker. Cannot handle the pressure in Grand Slams!
Giggs - Give me a break!
Strauss - See Giggs
Tom Daley, Jessica Ennis, Philips Idowu, Beth Tweddle - Fair play they all achieved near to the pinacle of their sport (i.e World champions as oppose to Olympic champions)
Haye - Fought once and not very well against an awful opponent
Cavendish - Who? ;D

Some fair points there mate, but still have to disagree totally with Murray, I think the problem is that as a nation we are starved with no other players in the Tennis world so Murray is a sole represantative and is a bit over rated because of that.
But in reality the rest of the list are all champions of there chosen sport or have done something amazing in there proffesion, where Murray chocked as usual in the ultimate prizes in tennis.
In all 4 grand slams he was beaton by an inferior opponent ( well a player ranked lower than him ) He did win two masters series is quite an acheivement but not really on the same level as Grnad Slams.
I just think if he had achieved the equivalant in Golf no one would give a shit because we have a dozen or so British players who are world class.

Re: Sports personaility ten on the shortlist
In 2009 Phil Taylor has won -
World Championship (TV)
Players Champ (TV)
UK Open (TV)
Las Vegas Classic (TV)
World Matchplay (TV)
South African Masters (TV)
Grand Prix (TV)
European Champs (TV holland)
Grand Slam (TV)
German Open (TV europe)
(The only televised comp he didn't win was the Premier League finals)
Plus over 15 non-televised tournaments. Did a televised 9 dart finish (UK) and broke his own TV average record (118+).
Now whether or not you believe Darts is a proper sport, surely that type of dominance pisses all over the achievements of the majority of that selected top 10?

Shit I forgot all about Taylor the man personally I cant stand little fat bastard! But you cant doubt the mans dominance he should not only be on the top 10 shortlist but be in with a big shout of winning it, it's not as if darts is a small sport ( if you can call it that ) anymore where you just see the World Champs on bbc over crimbo, darts is all over SkY Sports and there is big big prize money in it to.
Re: Sports personaility ten on the shortlist
If darts is in I want this 'sport' in Major Tiddlywinks Championships

He also has the personality and charisma of a traffic cone.

Got to take issue about Strauss.
He captained England to an Ashes series win, in which he was leading run-scorer and was named man of the series. Pretty deserving of a top ten spot i'd say.
Also got to disagree with your comments about Button.
Over the course of the season the Red Bulls probably had the best car. It was only the first two races that the Brawn was clearly superior.
Granted he did seem to let the pressure get to him towards the end, but he redeemed himself with the magnificent drive in Brazil to seal the title.
