Ricky Hatton ready to return
Former world champon Ricky Hatton has resumed training. “The Hitman” has been out of the ring since being demolished by Manny Pacquiao in May. After taking a cruise over Christmas, Hatton is expected to make an official comeback announcement in February. According to the Manchester Evening News, talks have begun for a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
I'm good and ready for a Hatton comeback. It's been a long wait. May is plenty of time for him first of all whittle down a bit of that weight and then get into some serious training. The Pac fight was not the way to go out and I want to see Hatton amend that. I don't want him to have one fight either. I want to see him claim back 140 and then retire for good. If Hatton can look good in this comeback fight against Marquez, which he might very well do, then I want to see a Bradley fight. Or even a Khan fight if they can work something out. Maybe that's a bit optimistic, but that's because I've had a glass of wine.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
plenty of time for ricky to prepare for may 2010 fight with jmm tho i feel may is unlucky month for ricky. but who knows?
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
He needs to get in the gym anyway otherwise he will die like Bernard Manning.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
I really trying to be thrilled... halas, it is impossible. Hope he'll win this one without damage and retire before it gets too late
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
I think this is a really interesting, if irrelevant, fight. All logic would indicate that Marquez should win, but he really doesn't belong anywhere north of 135 and his chin has looked shaky at times. If Juan Diaz can hurt you, Ricky Hatton can too.

No offence to Rickys fans but Jmm! I tend to hold Ricky in the same light as I used to hold Vargas with his kill or be killed attitude and its effects on his game.
Great boxers will always find a way around them unless they get dragged into a brawl or they get caught cold wich is rare at that level. Jmm /Hatton could turn out to be a last embarresment; I'd be building up to a fight like that with two others.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
Can't help but feel that Hatton is only in it for the money now rathr than to be succesful.. or he would of taken a warm up/confidence booster fight first. I mean come on, who in their right mind would fight someone as good as JMM after a crushing 2nd round KO loss.
At least he had the brains to fight a lesser opponet (no offense to lazcano) after floyd knocked him out.

true he has looked shaky but we've yet to see him ko'd before he's even hit the floor. Those have been BAD knockouts for Hatton.:-\
He could of course rattle JMM the same as Diaz did early on but you get the feeling JMM could ride out the storm one more time and counter to Rickys chin.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
I would of liked to see Hatton have a warm up fight and if he has anything left then go for 1 big last fight against Marquez.
I fear that he has taken alot of shots over his career and the constant battle with weight has maybe affected him to much that his punch resistance is not good and his stamina has deserted him.
I think he has a chance early against Marquez if he swarms him like Diaz did then he stands a good chance but if he fails to do that i think Marquez will be to sharp and stop him around 8/9th.

I can't really see him taking 140 back now - There are some beasts in the division like Bradley (which could actually be a great war of attrition if they fought I reckon) - I'd also fancy Khan to take him at this stage which would be a massive shame. I wouldn't like to see that.
If he beats Marquez and that's a massive "if" (I don't see it) then he should definitely take a bow and leave with his head held high. As it stands, I think he suffers "Funny KO number 3"

VD will love that. ;D
I think he's dying to see Hatton suffer another KO.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
It would be sensible for Hatton to have warm up fights but too much money at stake and he could slip up if he is not motivated. He wants to challenge the best and that gets him up for the fight. I hope Hatton pulls it off.
Re: Ricky Hatton ready to return
On a bit of a different note, it's really nice to see Marquez get some big paydays as his career winds down.
