Any former Mayorga fans out there?
Just watching some of his old clips and although he was a brawler, he was so damn entertaining. Reminded of why he was one of my all time favorite boxers.
I would have loved to see a 140lb prime Mayorga vs Maidana. What an exciting fight that would have been. Really too bad he's not around anymore as his pre-fight antics were just hilarious.
I loved this interview:

If any former Mayorga fans have a highlight clip, please post it! Can't find any highlight reels on him on youtube.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
I'm the biggest Mayorga fan on the forum. lol
He's my favorite fighter and it was heart breaking to see him lose to Oscar and be KO'd in the last few seconds against Mosley after Mosley was NOT sent to a neutral corner.
Anyway he's going to fight in MMA now, thats why he's not boxing anymore.
And yes its a damn shame.
Woulda loved to have seen him fight Kermit Cintron.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
I think Mayorga is brilliant to watch, he always let himself down in his biggest fights by not training, hed start off strong landing good shots and winning rounds against Trindidad, De La Hoya and Mosley and then tire after 4 rounds.
Forrest was coming off of beating Mosley Twice and was well rated pound for pound, Forrest also showed he had a good dig against Mosley but couldnt put a dent in Mayorga even when given free shots;D;D
He had Trinidad on his ass but tired, he took everything he had to offer on the chin and got stopped to the body.
Very exciting fighter though, I think if he hadnt been flumuxed by Spinks who some people think he beat anyway we could have seen him in some very good fights while he still gave a shiit and trained, I think he would have waded through Mosley back then and possibly Tito as well.
Oscar suprised me with his power against Mayorga, he dropped him clean with a left hook, Mayorga really wasnt that hurt though he got up and carried on for a few more rounds, he was more knackered by the end than beat up.
Mosley said in his build up to Mayorga that Oscar told him "Mayorga has very heavy hands"
As long as he learns some groundwork and take down defence he will be fun to watch in mma as well, although his first fight is supposed to be against Din Thomas whos very good.

Some people think Ricardo Mayorga beat Cory Spinks ? that fight wasn't even close Cory Spinks totally outboxed Ricardo Mayorga and won by atleast 4 rounds.
The only controversy was that Cory Spinks went to the canvas like 5 times, but none of those were knockdowns, maybe 1 was sort of a knockdown but i don't know about that, but even if you scored it. Cory Spinks was still a clear winner.
My favorite fight of Ricardo Mayorga's was his 2nd fight with Vernon Forrest, that was a great battle in the 2nd half of the fight, and it was very competitive i don't really know who won that fight, i thought it was a draw.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
What a knockout that was of Lewis. Haven't seen that since it happened.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
Very entertaining fighter.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
I always thought Mayorga was the best club fighter ever. He showed he could improve and actually gave Mosley trouble. If he could have gotten his head all the way in the game he could probably still be a threat today. I loved the first Forrest fight and how he just invited Vernon in, took it and pounded the schtoopies out of a P4P fighter. How could you not love that little rapist. Ooooops.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
I am a huge Mayorga fan...The guy is in no way a top caliber fighter (Or ever was) that will go down as a great but man win or lose he was fun to watch.....The best thing is no matter who he faced Mayorga could change the whole fight with one of his overhand rights.....He had heart and ALWAYS came to fight.......
I just wish that he would have boxed more when he did not have to slug because believe it or not he did have some boxing ability..
He choose to entertain the masses instead:D.....
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
Mayorga was better than people give him credit for and he always came to fight. The only fight I was really let down with was the DLH fight, it was just too easy for Oscar. Hulk mentioned the lack of space in the KO against Mosley and this is true, Mayorga should have gone the distance in that one.
Mayorga is too old now and I won't give him any attention if he goes to MMA, but I respect him as a boxer.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
He could throw one hell of a slap...
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
He was an entertaining fighter that gave it his all in the ring. Can't ask for more than that. And I love his prefight trash talking.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
Mayorga could well have got another title shot if he had gone through and fought Angulo, he had at least done some rounds with Mosley so wouldnt have been as rusty as he normally is and if sissy pants Cintron can beat Angulo then Mayorga would have;D
I wouldnt turn my back in disgust if he fought in MMA, id love to see those big wild punches knock a few mma fighters stupid;D
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
He really was a breath of fresh air at first, pulverized Six heads and really made you sit up straight :o.....think he turned the corner when he ate himself out of a title shot with Garcia (?) and chased the money.Became a novelty act.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
if Mayorga had won the last round against Mosley he would have won the fight, the score cards were that close. He was something special to watch and he showed what a person can do in the sport of boxing with nothing more than a heavy hand and big balls. LOL I had the pleasure of meeting him one day outside the gym were I use to train. He was at a cafeteria having a Cuban coffe and smoking a Marlboro red LOL he's a real nice guy and he's a lot bigger in person.
Re: Any former Mayorga fans out there?
I was wondering what was happening to him.
He really is a prat, rude, crude and has no class love it when he get beat, only Vargas failed recently.
