The main event features heavyweights

Tony "The Tiger" Thompson 33-2 (21 KOs) vs. Owen "What the Heck" Beck 29-4 (20 KOs)
At first glance, most will mention that Beck is well past it and they would be right, but Beck is filling because Jason Estrada who was originally supposed to fight injured his cankle. I really like Thompson, he stuck with his game plan and kept his head in the game against Wlad until Wlad's power finally came through. To my recollection he's given Wlad the biggest challenge in recent years. Since then he has been active getting in rounds and taking whatever fights were available to work his way back up.

The undercard features undefeated Lightweight prospects.

Henry Lundy 17-0-1 (10 KOs) vs. Tyrese Hendrix 18-0-1 (7 KOs)
The winner of this bout surely moves on to bigger and better things while the loser moves back into obscurity.

I'm looking forward to watching this.

To me Tony Thompson is still in the top 5 best heavies, he beats down David Haye and Arreola in my mind.

It's a shame that the boxing world as a whole only know him through his performance against Wlad. Steve Bunce over here said he was gutless, had no heart and no ambition, and that is just not true.

He worked his way up the hard way. I remember fighting, I believe Timor Ibragimov without having any shoes and someone had to lend him some trainers, he still won every round.

He travelled to Germany and demolished Krasniqui in an upset that won me some money as William Hill had him a big underdog, when I knew he'd win easily.

To me he's basically Audley Harrison with a decent chin, higher workrate and a set of balls.

I actually think Thompson is how Audley Harrison would be if he could actually perform to his potential. He'll win tonight and get himself back in the mix.

I have no doubt that at some point he will play the role of gatekeeper and upset one of the contenders and can then get himself another title shot.

He's not beating a Klitschko though......

He should get through tonight pretty easily. His original opponent would have looked better on the resume, but what can you do? His last win over Witherspoon was a very good win as well. I agree he's a very good heavyweight, very underrated and overlooked. I don't know about the Harrison comparison, Thompson likes to stay on his toes for the most part which reduces his power, but also helps him to absorb damage better. Harrison is much more flat footed.

Haye would destroy Thompson without a doubt. I don't see how he could handle Haye's speed or explosiveness.

Other than that I'm looking forward to watching this myself. Like you said he probably put the best performance of any recent Wlad opponent. That said I don't think he took a round. I think Thompson-Arreola would be a very interesting fight.

Thompson knocks Haye out inside 9 rounds imo. I don't think Haye has yet beaten anyone of real quality in the heavyweight division, Valuev was a manufactured champ who had lost at least 3 times before Haye got to him.

Barrett is not a top 30 heavyweight and Ruiz has not been significant to the division in years.

Thompson would lick all of those guys.

He has beaten everyone who has been put in front of him and this time round he looked like a true HW and destroyed a game but limited challenger. He has done everything that has been asked of him. Even Lyle lowered himself in one thread to say "he has only done a bit better than I thought he would" which means even Lyle is slightly impressed (though he'll never admit it).

I've seen Thompson fight a few times and he's nothing special. Or a particularly hard puncher or all that fast.

David Haye would knock his ass out fairly easily.

To be honest that's how i saw his performance against Wlad.

College baseball hmmm.Seems like it'll be off on time?I'm not sure Thompson can knock Beck out but if hes any type of top heavy ":-X" he should shut him out cleanly.Glad its Friday!!!
